LeToya Luckett has always been a class act. Since her exit from the historic girl group, Destiny’s Child, she’s carved out a career for herself that includes music, acting and modeling. Luckett has openly discussed the work it took to reclaim her joy over the years. and is not one to shy away from the lessons life has taught her. From a short lived engagement to popular love and relationships writer, Rob Hill, to her recent divorce from husband Tommy Walker, LeToya has weathered every storm with immense grace.

Fans of Destiny’s Child remember that her exit, alongside former member LaTavia Roberson, was wrought with rumors and mudslinging. As time passed, and the group found a groove with Michelle Williams, what happened between the ladies no longer mattered. LeToya returned to the music scene with her hit “Torn” in 2006. The public welcomed her back with an album that debuted at No.1 on Billboard. Through it all, she remained pretty mum on the details of her girl group past.

Over the past few years, there seems to be beautiful healing and unity amongst the original four Destiny’s Child members with both LeToya and LaTavia supporting Beyoncé during her On The Run Tour II alongside hubby Jay-Z with picture proof. And recently, Kelly Rowland posted a photo of she and LeToya holding one another’s sons. One can only imagine the work, maturity and time it has taken to arrive back at sisterhood.

Recently, Luckett sat down with the Good Moms Bad Choices podcast where the mother of two reflected on the things she learned during her time in DC4. “With a lot of partnerships, we lose ourselves to become one,” she said. “With DC (Destiny’s Child), my role was like, the soprano, or whatever. So, coming out of DC, that was the only thing I thought I could sing. For so long, I felt like I had sacrificed myself for the greater good. It did something to my confidence.”

Reflecting on that part of her life, the mother of two shares advice for the woman she once was. “I think that that would be the one thing that I would tell my younger self is ‘Don’t lose yourself, baby,” she said. “You still matter. Still remain confident in who God created you to be and the gift that he gave you. You don’t have to shrink yourself to be good at your role.”

Even with everything they went through in the group, they’ve managed to remain rooted in love. “I learned so much from that situation,” she added. “And gratefully, we’re all still really cool. It’s beautiful that after so many years, the love is still there.” It’s so great to grow alongside our favs and witness their maturation firsthand. Fans of LeToya can catch her in Lifetime’s Line Sisters which she stars in alongside Kierra Sheard and Drew Sidora.
