Singer Mary J. Blige is set to host a new radio show on New York’s 107.5 WBLS. Legendary DJ Funkmaster Flex recently confirmed the news in an Instagram post.
“ITS OFFICIAL! WE WELCOME @THEREALMARYJBLIGE TO THE WBLS AIR STAFF! MARY HAS A NEW SHOW COMING TO WBLS ON SATURDAYS! SHHHHHH! MARY WE READY! POW! YES! @cyn.smith_ approved!” he wrote.
Flex also clarified that WBLS’ Program Director, Cynthia Smith, approved his post. The show is still untitled but some details have been revealed. Those include that the R&B singer will host engaging conversations as she curates a playlist of her favorite songs.
Blige is no stranger to putting on the “host” hat. She also has a TV show with BET called “The Wine Down.” The series aired earlier this year and featured celebrities like Yung Miami and 50 Cent. BET described the show as Blige “[raising] a toast to her celebrity friends as they join her for casual chats and deep conversations about the joys and challenges of love and everyday life.”
Mary J. Blige Headlines WBLS and Hot 97 Concert
WBLS and Hot 97 are hosting a concert celebrating fifty years of Hip Hop, with Blige as the headliner. Other artists joining her include EPMD, Wu-Tang Clan, Mariah Carey, and more. The event will be held on September 15 at Madison Square Garden.
Blue Note Jazz Festival
In addition, to the radio show announcement, the Queen of R&B/Soul performed at the Blue Note Jazz Festival. In true “Mary J. Blige” fashion, she lit up the stage with her vocals. Not to mention, her outfit did not disappoint.
The “Sweet Thing” singer rocked all denim. She wore a structured bralette, high-waisted shorts, and a longline jacket that fell to her knees, creating a monochromatic look. Blige’s accessories included a diamond necklace and matching diamond hoop earrings.
