Who Are Angel and Dren?

Born in the Bronx to Jamaican immigrants, Angel and Dren Coleman grew up surrounded by music.

“You couldn’t block it out if you tried,” Angel said in a conversation with WWD.

This rich musical heritage laid the foundation for their dynamic careers as DJs, musicians and producers. The twins first dipped their toes into DJing after playing around with a friend’s equipment. They quickly fell in love with it. Something that started as a hobby soon became their full-time passion. It lead them to perform at major festivals, like Governors Ball and Coachella. They also played sets at high-profile fashion events for brands, like Nike.

Their DJ sets are a delicious blend of Caribbean, R&B, hip-hop, reggae and Afrobeats. They showcase their eclectic taste and deep connection to their roots in each set. As Angel describes it, DJing is about “reading a room and knowing how to juggle people and what they want and what you want.” This intuitive approach, perhaps helped by their twin telepathy, has made them a hit on the nightlife and festival circuits.

From Music to Wellness

The pandemic in 2020 caused a sudden halt to their bustling DJ schedule. However, Angel and Dren used this time to pivot and explore other passions. They opened a juice bar in Harlem called Mad Juicy, transforming a vacant space into a wellness hub for the community.

“Obviously, the pandemic wasn’t a good thing, but one positive I took out of it was that I was able to delve into some of my other interests,” Dren explained to Refinery29.

Mad Juicy became more than just a spot for fresh-squeezed juices and smoothies. It turned into a gathering place where people could connect and find solace during the difficult times of the lockdown.

Musical Ventures

Despite their ventures into wellness, music remains at the core of who Angel and Dren are. They released their debut EP, “Dark Summer,” in 2021, which features the single “Nirvana.” This project reflects their journey and growth as artists, with a sound that blends their diverse influences and experiences.

“It’s about getting where you want to be in life and about being present on that journey,” Angel explained to Vogue.
