For Glory Edim, stories are more than entertainment, they’re a form of liberation. As the founder of the beloved literary platform Well-Read Black Girl, Edim has spent the past decade amplifying the voices of Black women in literature and making space for readers to feel affirmed, inspired and truly seen.

This spring, Edim will bring that same energy to the stage at Summit 21 during Blavity Fest 2025, where she’ll speak on the power of narrative, creativity and building community through books. For those eager to hear from the literary visionary in person, tickets are available now.

The Woman Behind the Movement

Born in Arlington, Virginia, to Nigerian immigrant parents, Edim discovered her love for reading at an early age. But it was during her time at Howard University that she began shaping her vision. It’s one that would eventually evolve into a movement. In 2015, she launched Well-Read Black Girl as a simple Instagram page to highlight Black women authors. What started as curated book recommendations grew into a national book club, a sold-out festival, and even a bestselling anthology.

Her book, “Well-Read Black Girl: Finding Our Stories, Discovering Ourselves,” features personal essays from renowned authors such as Jesmyn Ward and Tayari Jones, reflecting on the books that shaped their lives. It’s a deeply moving collection and a reminder that representation on the page can be life-changing.

Why Her Work Matters Now

At a time when discussions around identity, healing and representation continue to evolve, Edim’s work feels more necessary than ever. Well-Read Black Girl has become more than a literary platform—it’s a space for connection, community and joy. Through books and shared stories, Edim has shown that honoring Black women’s voices isn’t just empowering; it’s transformative.

Whether you’re discovering her for the first time or already count yourself among the Well-Read Black Girl community, Edim’s perspective is one that resonates. Glory Edim reminds us that stories can shape worlds—and that Black women’s stories are at the center of it all.
