Social media has turned into much more than a person’s highlight reel of their day or favorite moments. There’s so much helpful and lighthearted content online. However, social media has also become a breeding ground for wild conversations, unfiltered opinions and an occasional battle between the sexes. The interactions between Black men and women have been the source of many debates on social media. Unfortunately, some men’s social media presence can give their followers -especially women – the ick. 21Ninety polled women for their opinions on the unattractive things they hate to see men doing social media.

Posting Too Much

Women complained to 21Ninety about this action the most.

“[They are] always commenting on everything. Who sent for you?” Shameka Ward said.

Some women think it is unattractive for a man to post on social media every day.

“If he posts everyday all day, it shows me he has nothing better to do with his life,” Marquesha Wilson said.

The responses were full of disdain for men sharing lip-synching videos, doing viral dances or simply always having something to say.

“They are in the comments too much, especially on the blog pages,” Brandolyn Hellams said.

Oversexualizing Women

The next big red flag from men on social media was making everything about sex.

“Bragging about how they do women in bed! Man, quit soliciting,” LaTarsha Covington said.

It doesn’t help if a man’s followers list is full of half-naked women. Or if he constantly shares content that feels degrading.

“Posting inappropriate things in their story like a girl shaking [their] behind or women’s body parts,” Victasha Jackson said.

Disrespecting Women

Disrespect towards women online was another big offender.

“Consistently bashing women, [talking] about how women are gold diggers, yet they have no gold themselves,” Lauren Black explained.

Sometimes men don’t have to necessarily say or post anything to be considered disrespectful.

“Liking other girls’ naked pictures when they’re in a relationship or married is not cool,” Alex Whittler said.

Showing Off

Some men don’t practice subtle or humble bragging on social media.

“Photos flexing their money and expensive stuff,” Noura Aalen said.

Appearing to be conceited was also a no-no for some women.

“If he’s always posting messages on his stories or picture captions that show he has a big ego/cocky,” Wilson said.

Selfie Overload

Speaking of ego, it’s apparently unattractive for a man’s camera roll to be full of selfies.

“Selfies! I know it’s hypocritical but why are you also using the Paris filter,” Mohria Harris said.

Social Media Drama

Creating conflict online is also a turnoff to women.

“Only commenting on things that can cause friction or an unhealthy debate,” says Whitfiled. “Constantly complaining about anything like politics, personal views, feminism, etc. Also calling people names because they don’t agree with their way of thinking.”

Then there are the men who take their relationship or personal problems to social media.

“Men who share or engaged in arguments with their partner/significant other on social media and air out their dirty laundry/business,” Jessica Thomas said.

Honorable Mentions

Other things women brought up were posting pictures of guns, smoking hookah, sending unsolicited advice or pictures. They also hate when men are interested in them but don’t directly say so.

“Sending direct messages with emojis, but [they] don’t initiate an actual conversation and then expecting things to get off the ground,” Whittler said.
