These days, we’re paying more attention to ingredient lists for our favorite beauty products and educating ourselves on what to avoid, which means brands are having to level up. Milk Makeup is a beauty brand that’s answering our call to create products that support our external well-being. The New York-based brand, founded in 2016, is committed to clean beauty in several ways. Here’s how Milk Makeup wants to help you #LiveYourLook with products you can feel good about using.
Hiring Diverse Talent
Milk Makeup recognizes that creating clean beauty products for all is best accomplished by ensuring a variety of voices are helping to build the brand. In 2020, Milk Makeup developed five commitments to focus on regarding diversity and inclusion, and first on the list is recruiting and hiring more people who identify as BIPOC. As a result of the effort, the brand increased its BIPOC representation among employees from 38% in 2021 to 45% in 2022.
Creating Products with Clean Ingredients
What does “clean beauty” even mean? For Milk Makeup, it means all products are 100% vegan and cruelty free. None of the products are tested on animals or unethically sourced. MMU product developers even have a list of more than 2,500 commonly used ingredients in makeup that are an absolute no, like talc, mercury and formaldehyde. What the company does focus on is prioritizing high-quality natural ingredients, such as flower extracts, mineral pigments and vegan waxes. Also, Milk Makeup got the thumbs up from the Clean at Sephora program, which ensures brands sold in Sephora stores that claim to be clean aren’t using harmful ingredients.
Using Innovative Formulas
If we’re being honest, we want to use products with clean ingredients that work without sacrificing any glam opportunities for the ‘gram. Milk Makeup doesn’t sidestep quality in its efforts to make vegan, cruelty-free products. One of our favorite new products, RISE Mascara, promises a dramatic lift for your lashes while delivering maximum length and weightless volume. Plus, it’s infused with monoi oil and marigold extract, which help strengthen and condition your lashes, so they look healthier and feel soft.
RISE Mascara: A mascara infused with monoi oil, marigold extract and bamboo fiber powders to fortify, soften and lift each strand.
Making the transition to using clean products in your beauty regimen isn’t an overnight switch, but it’s definitely a win for your body and the world. Take a look at more of Milk Makeup’s products.
