Yolanda Hubbard and Roderick Hubbard had an exciting May. The duo recently graduated together from Albany State University.
According to The Albany Herald, the two already obtained undergraduate degrees from the HBCU. The mother and son duo added to their accolades on May 6. Yolanda received her master’s degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in Human Resources. Roderick received his Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership. In an interview with the Albany Herald, Roderick shared his pride in the moment he shared with his mom.
“This was an opportunity for us to celebrate our achievements together and reflect on the hard work and dedication that led us to that moment,” he said. “I do believe I’m prouder of my mom than I am of myself.”
Albany State also joined the celebration of Yolanda and Roderick by sharing their achievement on their Instagram account.
Yolanda works at a hospital and hopes to use her degree to expand her career there. Roderick currently works as an assistant principal. His next goal is to move into a principal role with hopes of having a leadership role in the school district.
Yolanda and Roderick are continuing a family tradition by gaining their latest degrees. They’ve had numerous family members graduate from ASU, including Roderick’s grandmother, who is a former Albany mayor Dorothy Hubbard.
“We come from a long line of ASU graduates,” Dorothy told The Albany Herald. “It is important to me that our children, their children and their children’s children see these accomplishments, so they may earn their degrees from ASU.”
Along with Roderick and his mom, Roderick’s wife, brother, sister-in-law, uncle and cousins have also all graduated from Albany State University.
