It’s no secret that Black women have been leading the trend, and boldly engaging in the world of luxury.

But outside of lavish trips around the world, expensive handbags and designer clothing, is the practice of luxurious living in the homes of Black women, as well as in their acts of self-care.

My Black Is Beautiful chose to highlight this trend and further the at-home options of luxury with the release of their Golden Milk Collection.

The collection features various hair staple products, formulated with the use of coconut milk, turmeric, ginger, honey and coconut oil. The line features a total of eight products which include the Hydrating Shampoo, Fortifying Conditioner, Tangle Slayer Conditioning Cream for Type 3 hair, Tangle Slayer Conditioning Cream for Type 4 hair, Intense Recovery Treatment, Moisture Luxe Detangling Spray, Edge Slayer and Curl Cream.

The line is designed to “nourish” natural curls and coils.

My Black Is Beautiful held a virtual event to celebrate the line’s release and invited a plethora of beauty, health and lifestyle journalists for a conversation centered around “exploring how hair care and styling can be a form of luxurious self care.”

The conversation was headed by journalist Danielle Young, and celebrity natural hairstylist, Felicia Leatherwood, who shared their thoughts on Black women “redefining luxury on their terms as an act of self love.”

Leatherwood opened up the conversation by explaining what she loves most about the Golden Milk Collection. She explained, “I can tell you from my own experience from using the Golden Milk collection, that my 4C hair… felt great after I used it.” She informed attendees about the importance of using a nourishing shampoo, and explained that a great deal of hair’s strength and health actually starts with the quality of shampoo that’s being used.

She continued, “I want people to know that – a lot of times, we’ll take products and we’ll cocktail them… you don’t need to. For me, the whole line worked well together. I didn’t feel that I was missing anything… I felt great using all [of the products].”

Leatherwood continued by explaining the importance of using hair products that enhance the hair’s natural texture, as well as its hydration and moisture. The ladies raved about the Golden Milk’s Edge Slayer, which they unanimously agreed is a product favorite. And also took the time to point out that the collection equally addresses the needs of those with Type 3 hair, as well as those with Type 4 hair.

Touching on the Golden’s Milk Curl Cream, Leatherwood raved, “I love a product that specializes in my texture. I need that – because some of the products, when I try to use them, my hair is like ‘no, we’re not doing that today.’ So the fact that My Black Is Beautiful really did consider us kinky-coily girls… I am so grateful.”

To that, Young replied, “We love a specific consideration – which to me, as a Black girl with 4C hair, it is absolutely a luxury to have a product that is specific for us. Because usually it’s a curly this, or this or that, and it’s not specifically 4C. So I love that My Black Is Beautiful has given us the option to be casually luxurious.”
