Most pet owners aren’t ashamed to admit that they profess their love to their animals multiple times a day. Whether it’s through grooming their fur, making sure they have food and water, taking them for a walk in the park or adding a new toy to their ever-growing collection, when your pets feel that love, they return it tenfold in the form of cuddles and kisses. Creatures so adorable are worth celebrating all the time, but today (Aug. 26) is National Dog Day, making it the perfect occasion to do some extra doting on your fur babies.
If you’re a canine lover but have yet to adopt one yourself, some of our favorite Black celebrities and their dogs might have you heading to the animal shelter this week. Megan Thee Stallion and her Frenchie Foe are both social media superstars, meanwhile, British racer Lewis Hamilton and his Bulldog Roscoe stay looking fresh and fit thanks to their vegan diet.
Megan Thee Stallion
Since Tina Snow first rose to fame, she’s kept her adorable French Bulldog, Foe, in the public eye with her. To make sure her “firstborn” didn’t grow lonely Thee Stallion later expanded her canine family, bringing home a Pitbull named Five plus two more Frenchies named Oenita and Dos. Most recently, the Houston native fell in love with a Cane Corso, Six, and a Merle dog named X; needless to say, she’s likely having a busy National Dog Day.
Tiffany Haddish and Kevin Hart
In the photo above, Tiffany Haddish and Kevin Hart snuggle up to adorable pups that don’t belong to them. However, both actors are loud and proud animal lovers, with the Girls Trip starlet claiming her late rescue dog was able to sniff STDs off of her dates, as People reports. As for Hart, he’s the proud father of two Dobermans, Roxi and Rosco, who match his neverending energy perfectly.
The Weeknd
Following his 2017 split from Selena Gomez, The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) helped heal his heart by finding the perfect dog to love. The Doberman Pinscher’s name is Caesar, and to this day he’s a staple on the Canadian’s Instagram profile. According to The List, Gomez and Tesfaye adopted a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Charlie while they were dating, and fought over custody when they split.
Zoë Kravitz
Just in time for National Dog Day, Buzzfeed has dropped a new interview with Blink Twice director Zoë Kravitz and her beau, Channing Tatum. People are curious to know all about their new movie and upcoming wedding, but throwing cute puppies into the mix only makes watching the couple more fun. Despite being cast as Catwoman opposite Robert Pattinson in Batman, Kravitz is clearly a dog person. “I think cats are b**chy and complicated and difficult, and I’m totally like that as a person. I don’t want to deal with myself, basically,” she told GQ.
John Legend
Since settling down with Chrissy Teigen, John Legend has proven himself to be a family man, whether that means raising the couple’s four children, supporting his wife through a scandal or playing fetch with their adorable dogs. During a May 2024 appearance on The Tonight Show to support their Kismet dog food/treat line, they brought out their giant Poodle, Petey, who was nearly as big as the host.
Lewis Hamilton
Even while he’s working, Lewis Hamilton is still on dog dad duty. His Bulldog, Roscoe, has gained over one million Instagram followers as he documents his adventures around the globe with the F1 racer. “I’m a vegan bulldog that loves to travel, play ball and get attention from all the girls, especially when they rub my bum,” Ro’s cheeky bio reads. “I like frisbee and tennis,” he adds.
