Nia Long: The Untold Story
In a new interview with Essence Magazine, the actress said the memoir will be pusblished through 13a, an imprint of Gallery Books. Long says she looks forward to sharing her story with readers.
“I am thrilled to have found a home for my memoir at Gallery and 13a,” she told the outlet. “My steps to finding divine purpose have been thoughtful and intentional. For better or worse, you will find truth and transparency in the storytelling, sprinkled with 90s nostalgia.”
Long’s memoir will chronicle her decade-spanning career including romances, motherhood, iconic roles, and untold stories. This all comes at a time when she has had a resurgence in attention and popularity. Recently, she was featured on Janelle Monae’s “Age of Pleasure” album. Her acting career also continued with Netflix’s “You People,” and Peacock’s “The Best Man: The Final Chapters.” Her relationship with former Boston Celtics coach, Ime Udoka also recently put her names in the headlines. The Celtics publicly fired Udoka following an alleged affair with a female team staff member.
In the 90’s Long’s career skyrocketed, cementing her status in the industry. She was included in projects like “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “Love Jones,” Boyz In The Hood,” “Friday,” and more. Without a doubt, Long’s successes make her a figure in entertainment that cannot be replaced.
“Nia Long’s life has unfolded on screen, right before our eyes,” Charles Suitt, Publisher of 13a says. “Yet there is just something so relatable about her. She is a trailblazer who is all about action. We are looking forward to her telling her truth, as only Nia can.”
13a is an imprint of Gallery Books, which falls under the umbrella of Simon & Schuster. Its name derives from the amendment which abolished slavery and focuses on sharing Black stories with specificity to those in the entertainment industry. The publisher will also release “Straight Shooter: A Memoir of Second Chances and First Takes” by Stephen A. Smith. The memoir is set to be released later this year.
