Nicki Minaj is making history. The rapper will be reimagined into the first female operator in the war zone video game, Call of Duty.
Game creator, Activision, announced that Minaj will be a self-named character for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Warzone.
Nicki Minaj In Call of Duty
The game developers made sure to note that Minaj’s persona in the video game will not be her usual “Chill Nicki” but, will be “Red Ruby Da Sleeze.” The official Call of Duty Twitter account shared images of the rapper’s new character. She can be seen holding a bright pink gun with long pink hair.
Nicki Minaj’s character is a first for the franchise but she is not the first celeb to be a playable character for the popular game. Actors Pam Grier and Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson previously appeared as secret unlockable characters in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s Zombies maps, Shaolin Shuffle and Attack of the Radioactive Thing, respectively.
As part of the “50 Years of Hip Hop Celebration” in Warzone and Modern Warfare 2, game developers have not only chosen to recreate Nicki Minaj in the simulation. They’ll also include Snoop Dogg and 21 Savage. All three will be featured as Operators. While both Snoop Dogg and Nicki Minaj’s characters were revealed online, 21 Savage’s character has not been unveiled just yet. All of the new characters are set to release with the Season 5 update launching on August 2.
Although this is the first time Minaj has been featured in the video game, she has previously worked with the franchise. She teamed up with Call of Duty in 2022 for a promotional video to announce the game’s pre-order. The video, titled “Squad Up”, featured the “Pink Friday” rapper alongside other notable names such as Lil Baby, Bukayo Saka, and Pete Davidson.
