Renowned Nigerian-American editor and writer Nikki Ogunnaike has been named the editor in chief of women’s magazine Marie Claire. Ogunnaike joins this new post from Harper’s Bazaar where she was the senior digital director since coming onboard in 2020.
In her new role, Ogunnaike is said to “be responsible for leading the publication’s print, digital, experiential, and social efforts. Marie Claire shuttered print in September 2021 after 27 years, but new owners have committed to bringing back special issues.
Ogunnaike has been a strong figure in fashion, making a name for herself due to her distinctive fashion style and often sitting front row at fashion week. She has also held editorial roles in other publications such as Instyle, GQ, ELLE, and Glamour.
“As a long-time admirer, I’m thrilled to join the Marie Claire team and lead this brand into a new era,” Ogunnaike said in an official statement. “Women who are passionate about their careers, personal style, and the world around them will find a new destination that speaks to their entire identity. I can’t wait to begin this new chapter!”
And on her Instagram page, she posted a heartfelt caption celebrating the new appointment.
“For nearly 30 years, Marie Claire has been the go-to source for women who seek to lead a life of purpose and power. As a long-time admirer, I’m thrilled to join the Marie Claire team as their new Editor in Chief and lead this brand into a new era,” she wrote.
