Normani has been THAT girl for a long time. Her attention to detail, raw talent, beauty and stage presence are what makes her a bona fide superstar. The “Motivation” singer recently talked to Vogue and candidly shared her skincare routine, skin concerns and ’90s-inspired makeup routine.
On Skincare
In a vulnerable walk-through with Vogue, Normani shared her skincare routine and the items she uses to cater to her skin. In the video, the “Fair” singer shared that she has combination skin and has struggled with acne for at least a decade. She also shared that her skincare routine gives her an opportunity to intimately reconnect with herself. We often view skincare as an opportunity to improve our skin and eliminate blemishes, but as Normani pointed out, it can also serve as an opportunity to reconnect.

In the clip for Vogue, the songstress also touched on her roots, and the influence that her mother had on her as a little girl.
“I also grew up watching my mom do her hair and makeup, and I wanted to be just like her,” said Normani so I think that’s where that fascination and love for makeup and hair come from.”
She also shared growing up in a tight knit family and being one of three Black kids in elementary school and the toll that the experience took on her.

Blackness As A Beautiful Superpower
As a young girl, Normani said that she was not fully comfortable being one of the few black kids in school, and tried to change herself.
“I remember just going home and being like, Mom, can you press my hair? I wish my skin was lighter. I wish I had colored eyes,” said the 26-year-old singer.
She shared that as a little girl, although she saw her Blackness as something that she wanted to change, her parents encouraged to see her Black girl melanin as a superpower, and that instilled confidence in her.

The multi-talented singer continues to bet on herself and with every new music video and dance choreography that emerges, it is easy to see why her solo career continues to gain traction. Ever since she left the girl group Fifth Harmony to carve her own path, Normani has been making waves in the industry and continues to get better with time. This is evident in the radio hits she has released, and the passion and gusto that goes into every dance move and public performance. Her red carpet looks are also exquisitely well-put together and tailored to her brand. Normani is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon, and it is obvious that the sky is her launchpad, and that alone is badass.
