Letting go of the old is a very difficult process that I like to call the “In Between.” This excruciatingly uncomfortable process is when you’re stuck in old thoughts, patterns, and old ways of living while having one foot in a new door that is open to a variety of new and different possibilities.
As uncomfortable as “The In-Between” phase is, it’s important to fully release yourself from all that is holding you back, and whatever feels like a burden is what you should start to release all that is no longer serving you for your highest good and for the highest good of others.
It’s time to let go of one-sided and half a** relationships
If you’re holding onto relationships that feel more like burdens, this is a huge indicator that they may have run their course. It’s perfectly normal to outgrow people and it’s also perfectly normal to only experience relationships for a season if that’s the purpose they are meant for.
Sometimes one-sided relationships are meant to teach us valuable lessons about ourselves and as hard as they may be to let go of, it’s harder to let unfulfilling experiences stay in your life.
It’s time to let go of limiting beliefs and behaviors that are no longer serving you
Limiting beliefs and behaviors are just one of the many things to release this new year. If you’ve been holding onto negative thought patterns or draining attitudes that are harming you mentally and physically, it’s time to get to the root of the core issue here and to begin the transformation process.
The first way to release limiting beliefs and behaviors that no longer serve you is by identifying that they’re present in the first place. Then and only then can you realize what needs to change. Listening to positive affirmations every single day can be the first way to break the cycle.
It’s time to do some shadow work
Shadow work can be extremely painful however it’s a necessary part of healing that isn’t normalized enough in today’s society. Shadow work can be extremely beneficial when it comes to releasing baggage and any unhealed wounds that still may be lingering. Meditation is a good resource to utilize for shadow work and can help significantly with your spiritual path.
Allow a time and space for negative emotions then give them a deadline
It’s okay not to be okay, and it’s also okay to feel negatively surrounding a situation or experience. By giving yourself the time and the space to fully feel your feels, you can then be open to embracing more positivity and good feelings.
Stay compassionate with yourself during uneasy times
We can be our worst critic and our worst enemy if we give ourselves that power, however, it’s so important that we practice compassion for ourselves even through the lowest of times. Giving yourself grace for not feeling 100% will help put you on a more positive and happy note for the future.
Practice mindfulness
Staying in the present moment is one of the best ways we can let go of the past and embrace our current moment to the best of our abilities.
Don’t allow past circumstances to define who you currently are
Most of the time we can give power to things that are only draining us, including dwelling on the past and allowing it to define who we are as people. What happened last year will not necessarily happen again this year, and in an effort to prevent repeated cycles and mistakes from coming back, releasing the past is key in embracing a new beginning.
Give yourself the closure that you seek
Closure isn’t sometimes always given to us, even when we feel like we need it in order to move in. Giving yourself closure means that you’re taking your power back and controlling your own life circumstances regardless of the lack of effort others may present or may not present to you at all.
