Raven-Symoné has admitted to going under the knife for cosmetic procedures before she turned 18. The actress says that it was a result of being weight shamed in her teenage years.
Raven-Symoné’s Surgeries
In the latest episode of her podcast, “The Best Podcast Ever” co-hosted by her wife, Miranda Maday, Raven-Symoné discussed the procedures that she has had done.
“I had two breast reductions and lipo before I turned 18,” she said. “There was paperwork involved.”
When Maday asked her to explain why she got them done, the “Raven’s Home” star explained that her father, Christopher Pearman, encouraged her to undergo the surgeries. After she was ridiculed for her weight as a teen, he “strongly suggested” that she get a procedure to reduce her breast size.
“He was like, ‘So you don’t feel bad, is there anything that you want?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, if I get lipo, will people stop calling me fat?’ she recalled. “So I got a twofer. It was just a mess, just being that young and the pain of it all.”
After she underwent the breast reduction surgery, she still did not feel like they were small enough. Therefore, she decided to have another procedure done. Unfortunately, the second procedure was traumatic. She explained during the episode that she suffered from a seizure post-op.
“I remember waking up and seeing everything, and then I just started to have this dry mouth and couldn’t breathe and went back under,” Raven-Symoné recalled.
She admitted that she still does not know the specific cause of the seizure. The actress advised women to wait until they are fully developed before getting surgery.
Although she described the experience of undergoing surgery at such a young age as traumatic, she also believes that it was beneficial and the best decision for her.
