Spooky season is here. That means it’s time for pumpkins, haunted houses, skeletons, ghouls, goblins and everything in between. What better way to get into the spooky season spirit than to start watching some scary movies. Whether you’re into thrillers, horror, or slashers, there is the perfect movie that will send chills up your spine. What’s even better is that you can catch a scary movie of your favorite subgenre with a Black lead.

Here are some Black scary movies that are streaming right now.

Black Led Scary Movies

Us

There is no doubt that Jordan Peele has a knack for directing horror films. His film, “Us” starring Lupita Nyongo and Winston Duke is still a favorite, years after its original introduction to the public in 2019. The film, centered around an underground tethered community of human duplicates, is currently streaming on Peacock.

Candyman

A new age spin on the ’90s classic, “Candyman” had horror flick lovers at the edge of their seats when it was revived in theaters in 2021. The Yahya Abdul-Mateen-led film focuses on a man who let his obsession with the original, 1992 Candyman monster consume him to the point where he becomes the monster himself. You can take a ride on this trippy rollercoaster by logging into your Prime Video account to watch on your own!

Bad Hair

If you’re looking for something that has a bit of scary and a bit of comedy, look no further. Justin Simien’s, “Bad Hair” is the movie you’re looking for. When the main character, Anna Bludso — played by Elle Lorraine — becomes obsessed with getting “good” hair for her TV host job, her hair begins to call the shots. She installed a weave to make her fit a specific “look” but things take a turn when the hair gets a mind of its own and won’t allow anyone to cut it out, killing anyone that even tries. You can watch “Bad Hair” now, on Hulu.
