If you’re someone who likes to spend some “quality time” with yourself, you may want to think twice before you do it again. Dancehall icon, Spice, told us last week that you can conjure sex demons when you masturbate. She also mentioned that by doing so, you end up causing irreparable damage to your mortal relationship. But what exactly are these sex demons and what do they do?

The stories of sex demons go back as far as the third century B.C. They also have some Judaic and Christian roots. But mainly, the idea is that the demons are classified as an incubus (male) and a succubus (female). They have had several different names throughout history, like Lilu or Tokolosh. Throughout history, these demons have been said to seduce their victims in their dreams. Some people have reported being tied down by a sex demon and unable to move, similar to that of sleep paralysis.

Relation To Masturbation

Like Spice’s claim, many people have been told the story that masturbation leads to having sex with a demon. However, it contradicts the origins of incubus/succubus. According to legend, the demons only have sex with you while you are sleeping. Their order of business is to seduce you in your sleep, not while you are awake. Many Twitter users have called out Spice’s claims as tales passed down through their years to discourage people from sexual exploration.

Masturbation is not all bad. It has many positive benefits. For one, you can learn much more about yourself and what you like through masturbation. Dr. Sarah C. Flowers elaborated on the sexual discovery journey through the act. “If you don’t yet know what feels good to your body, masturbation is a great way to experiment and try things out,” she mentions. “If you understand how your body responds — or doesn’t respond — to different types of touch, you can better communicate that to your partner and get what you want out of sex. More fun for all!”

There are also several health benefits to masturbation. Some including stress relief, increasing self-esteem and boosting your immune system.

Sex demons may be folklore, but of course there are risks when it comes to any sexual activity whether it be demonic or human. Make sure to do your research to find out what’s best for you!
