It is really almost impossible to think of a year in which Black women didn’t come to show out and take names. Even in the midst of a global pandemic (seasons one, two and three), Black women have still taken out time in their day to serve the world a slay. From cute mommy and me moments to “every now and then you gotta go to the back of that closet and pull out that freakum dress” showstoppers, 2021 had it all and then some. We could barely pick our jaws up from the floor before someone else decided to firmly place her red bottom on our necks.
Here are some of the Black women who gave us the most drool worthy style moments of the year.
Shateria Moragne-El
This woman right here? Never met a look couldn’t kill. From dope casual streetwear to a stunning date night style moment, the moments never cease to amazing. Stop and stare, honey.
Kahlana Barfield
Honestly, there is not a style list without including Ms. “Style? I Created It” herself. When you talk about a person who always understands the fashion assignment, Kahlana comes to mind. Whether it’s a perfectly tailored suit or mixed prints to perfection, this look slayer is the moment.
Normani
This beauty had an incredible year putting out one of the biggest songs of her career but she also never hesitated to turn heads whenever a camera was pointed her way. Simple silhouettes and just enough skin to give it a little extra sauce, Normani definitely cemented herself as a girl with an eye for a look this year.
Halle Bailey
Though we are all waiting patiently for her turn as Little Mermaid, Halle has not left us with something to wet our palates. The younger of the Bailey sister singing duo has been silently letting us know she can pop out when called upon. And we are grateful for that!
Kelly Rowland
Listen, Miss Mamas hasn’t glued our wigs back down since 1996, ok? But there is something about the way Kelendria has truly stepped into her womanhood with nothing but beauty, grace and effortless style that always brings us back to the girl of destiny. Whew, can we just…?! Yes, Kelly, yes!!!!!
Yvonne Orji
Insecure may have ended but Yvonne Orji’s reign as a woman who knows how to give us closet envy has not. Never shying away from color or bold statement wardrobe pieces, Orji reminds us that fashion risks can have major payoffs.
Teyana Taylor
I mean, do we even have to go into detail here? Teyana Taylor is someone who oozes a genuine sense of style that is all her own. Her looks effortlessly flow between sexy, tomboy chic and fashion icon on any given day. Few people truly always get it right but Teyana just does.
Karrueche Tran
Talk about a woman who knows her body and dresses to accentuate what she has and none of what she doesn’t. As a leader in the petite with meat community, Karrueche always manages to give us all of what we need.
Cardi B
This rapper and mom of two has truly made a pivot to being one of the best dressed women in the business. From Paris fashion week to the Bronx streets, Cardi owns her curves while pushing the envelope for what female rappers and around the way girls can do when given the keys to the style kingdom of some of the hottest designers.
Ciara
This drip is automatic, supersonic, hypnotic…you know the rest. Mrs. Wilson has never missed this year. Like she is batting well above .500. Touchdown every single time. She is stunning whether she is serving sophisticated housewife or R&B pop diva.
