Rapper and “Love and Hiphop: Miami” star Sukihana has been facing inappropriate behavior from men recently while on her current media tour. On Tuesday, while appearing at the Crew League basketball tournament, rapper YK Orsiris tried to forcefully kiss her. Twice.
In a video clip of the incident, the “Worth It” rapper can be seen initially standing behind Sukihana, rubbing her shoulders. Sukihana is seen in the video looking surprised and shocked. The men she is seated with, including comedian Lil Duval, turn and look at Sukihana as YK Osiris begins to forcefully attempt to kiss her. The men viewing the incident then look away, look at each other, and show expressions of bemusement. But none say anything about what is happening next to them.
Osiris attempted to kiss Sukihana on TV while she was seated and was unable to immediately remove herself from the situation. Sukihana can be seen bending her head and body away from his mouth as far as she can go, still, Osiris doesn’t immediately stop. When he eventually ends the interaction, Osiris can be seen laughing and smiling as he walks away.
Many social media users have vehemently criticized YK Osiris’ behavior, fittingly accusing him of sexual assault. Other users questioned if Osiris’ actions were an attempt at creating a viral moment with a woman who unabashedly owns her sexuality. If that was the goal, the attempt backfired as many have have rushed in to swiftly call him out.
Amber Rose weighed in on the incident on her Instagram stories.
“Are we really going to sit back and let this happen to Sukihana???” Rose questioned. “She was sexually assaulted and no one did anything!!!
A Running Trend
This isn’t the first instance of a man publicly behaving inappropriately with Sukihana.
Video from Sukihana’s visit to Kandi Burruss’ Kandi Koated podcast, shows one of the hosts, DJ AONE, attempting to bully his way into a sexual encounter with her. DJ AONE can be heard teasing and challenging her for being open about her sexual preferences and forcefully urging her to engage in sexual activities with him.
Despite Sukihana’s insistence that he has to earn the right to be with her by giving her as much respect as he would anyone else, he doesn’t let up. At one point, the DJ can be seen allegedly showing her a picture of his privates.
On Sexuality and Unwanted Advances
Sukihana openly discusses her sexual needs, desires and experiences. It is not uncommon for her to share and rap about her uncensored thoughts on sex and her personal. The rapper also maintains an active OnlyFans account. As many have pointed out, none of these facts warrant the inappropriate behavior men have exhibited towards her.
Rose’s response to the Osiris incident further unpacked men’s inability to understand boundaries when it comes to the rapper and other women who openly express their sexuality.
“This is the entertainment business and she is an entertainer. Using her lyrics and her persona as an excuse to physically touch her and force her without her consent is absolutely disgusting. What happened to ‘protect Black women’??? I cried watching that video and I’m sure a lot of women have as well,” Rose wrote.
Both situations involving Sukihana bring to light the importance of consent no matter how women choose to present themselves. Many have pointed to a deep misunderstanding of consent from both men who assumed that Sukihana had no boundaries or preferences simply because of her image.Â
“Sukihana presents as a freak and regardless of how she presents, it doesn’t mean that she will be freaky with YOU. Accept that these women are human and CHOOSE who they want to get nasty with,” one Twitter user wrote.
Writer Jaelani Turner-Williams put it plainly, liberation does not equally violation.
“A woman being sexually liberated isn’t a pass for you to violate her,” Turner-Williams tweeted.
