Black celebrities make an impact on the world but there’s nothing like influencing those in your hometown. Whether it’s through comedy, acting, or music, it’s a privilege to be Black and a superstar while representing the place you once called home. Several communities have honored elite Black women for their legendary contributions. Here is a list of Black celebs who have received an honorary day.

Chloe Bailey

Chloe Bailey received an honorary day from her hometown, Atlanta, Georgia. The singer, songwriter, and actress attended a ceremony at Morehouse College officially making April 22 “Chloe Bailey Day.” Bailey recently released an album and continues to tour nationwide all while being featured on television. Still she made time to celebrate at the event. Halle Bailey commented, “That’s my sister!!!!” under a blog’s post for Bailey’s achievement. It’s likely Commissioner Natalie Hall and the city of Atlanta paid tribute the star because of her humility and hard work.

Robyn “Rihanna” Fenty

Rihanna is not only a songstress, writer, beauty mogul and “bad gyal” she’s also a National Hero in her native country, Barbados. A few years ago, the mother of two became the country’s 11th “National Hero” and the second woman to hold the title. Prime minister, Mia Amor Mottley, awarded Fenty with the award for her humanitarian accomplishments and global success. National Hero Day is April 29 every year in Barbados.

Dascha Polanco

Dascha Polanco became a legend for Black latinas when she starred in Netflix’s “Orange Is The New Black.” A few years ago, the Brooklyn-based actress, received her own Dascha Polanco Day on August 8. Former New York City mayor, Bill De Blasio awarded the actress for representing the Latinx community and establishing a theatre program in the Dominican Republic. Black Latinas are not always highly recognized in the media. Polanco remains an advocate for her community.

Beyonce

Since she owns the internet, everyday is really the queen’s day but Houston has yet to give Beyonce the honor. So, the entire state of Minnesota decided to adopt Queen B and make May 23 Beyonce’s official day. Before the Renaissance singer went on her “Lemonade” tour in Minneapolis, Governor Mark Dayton awarded the singer with her own day because she impacts young women and has influenced them with “powerful, positive messages in her songs.” Hopefully, Houston will give Beyonce her day soon but because of Minnesota’s recognition, she remains an honorable mention to this list. Beyonce sings she doesn’t want this power, but clearly the world wants it for her.
