In continuing their mission of educating and uplifting Black women on the varied facets of wellness, My Black is Beautiful (MBIB) hosted a 45-minute, virtual mini-retreat, "Looking Inward to Thrive Outward." The retreat was a holistic wellness experience focused on aligning the mind, body, and spirit connection from hair care to practicing intentional acts of mindfulness, including tea time and a sound bath guided meditation. The virtual event featured some of our absolute favorite beauty and lifestyle experts, such as certified yoga teacher and reiki practitioner Phyllicia Bonanno, clinical psychologist and hairstylist Dr. Afiya Mbilishaka, and celebrity stylist Felicia Leatherwood.

And if you thought that was all. Think again! MBIB also introduced their new Blue Ginger scalp and hair care collection – guaranteed to nourish your hair from the root to the tip while maintaining moisture and actively improving the scalp's skin barrier. Did I mention their newest line of products is also infused with antioxidant-rich plant blue ginger?

"The state of your hair reflects the overall health of your life. You can't buy good health. No matter how much money you have. What kind of degrees you've earned. Or what neighborhood you live in. You have to commit to good health. You have to live good health because good health comes from the inside out. It comes from what you bring to your life," Dr. Mbilishaka said during her mental wellness discussion.

The truth is, I couldn't agree more with her statement! This past year has forced many of us, if not all, to truly self-reflect. Taking a step away from the non-stop hustle and bustle has helped us redefine the meaning of self-care, especially for Black women. After all, internal beauty is just as important as your outer appearance because, like our girl, Lauryn Hill, said, "How you gonna win when you ain't right within?"
