Jeopardy — and the show’s host, Alex Trebek — have played a role in all of our lives in one way or another, but as Trebek’s contract ends in 2020, the 76-year-old show host has some thoughts on who should take over if he decides to retire once his contract is up.

After a chat with TMZ, Trebek shared that he can picture life without Jeopardy and he sees two people fit to do his job once he’s gone: Alex Faust, the LA Kings hockey announcer or Laura Coates, a well-respected legal analyst, law professor, author, radio and talk show host who also happens to be a black woman.

Laura Coates, a Minneapolis native, graduated from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs as well as the University of Minnesota Law School. She’s practiced law in both Minnesota as well as New York with cases that range from property litigation to defamation and media law.

The constitutional expert has also served as a trial attorney in the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice during the Obama administration. Coates also served as an Assistant United States Attorney for D.C. and prosecuted a large number of violent felony offenses that varied from drug trafficking, domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault and many more, according to her website.

But wait, there’s more, Coates has also written a book — You Have the Right: A Constitutional Guide to Policing the Police — which became a bestseller in 2016. The book focuses on the crucial need for police accountability and the improvement of police-community relationships.

Coates has managed to be recognized across many platforms, including radio and television, both of which she has shows on — The Laura Coates Show on Sirius XM’s UrbanView channel and she’s a legal analyst on CNN as well as a daily talk show host.
