As Target lovers and addicts alike, we would like to bring your attention to our fellow Target-lover, Serena Williams. Yes, it’s true! Williams shared with Yahoo Lifestyle that, as a black woman, the retailer is her go-to for beauty and hair products and who can blame her. With Target’s commitment to inclusivity and selling/supporting black-owned brands with reasonable prices, it’s really a no-brainer.
"They literally have everything. Anything that says 'curls,' 'manage your curls,' 'proud of your curls,' I’m drawn to it," Williams shared.
While Williams is known to sport a convenient protective style, underneath it all her hair is natural and she believes Target provides her an opportunity to purchase products made for her hair type. This is true even for when she’s on the go.
"I feel like there’s so much out there for natural hair and curly hair and black hair, which I love. I’ve literally tried everything — from Miss Jessie’s to Curls. I have a whole cabinet full of products. I think every black girl does for hair," she said.
When settling on a new product to try Williams’ system is simple, she either goes for products that are tried and true for her or she judges its "workability" through its advertisement.
"If the ads use black women or women like me, then I think, 'OK, I’m going to try this product.' But if they have ads with anyone who doesn’t look like me, I usually don’t try it," she admitted.

Williams also told Yahoo Lifestyle that she prefers to co-wash her natural hair with coconut oil and shea butter. And when she’s not skipping down the aisle at Target (because we imagine every curly girl gleefully perusing the natural hair care aisle), she is at home creating her own conditioners for her hair.
"(I mix) essential oils with a lot of other stuff. I’m a scientist in my bedroom," Williams said.
