The morning of Saturday, March 12th, began in shock, as news of Traci Braxton’s passing circulated across the internet.
It was reported that the fifty year old mother had lost her fight with esophageal cancer, after privately battling the disease for the past year.
Traci’s older sister, Toni Braxton, took to Facebook and Instagram to share a formal statement on behalf of the entire family. She wrote, “Needless to say, she was a bright light, a wonderful daughter, an amazing sister, a loving mother, wife, and a respected performer. We will miss her dearly.”
The Braxton sisters are known for sharing their lives, family disputes, and deep sisterly love for one another on the reality TV show, Braxton Family Values. The show aired for a total of seven seasons, and showed viewers that no matter what the family went through, mending those relationships and moving forward was the most important thing to them.
Tamar Braxton also took to social media to share a short, heartbreaking message in response to her sister’s passing.
Traci’s son and husband also took to social media to share emotional messages regarding her passing. Her son shared, “When I first heard the news about my mother being sick, [the] first thing she said was ‘I’m going to fight and beat this’. She fought to the end and today she’s at peace. I love my mother forever and this hurts so much but I’m at peace knowing she isn’t in pain anymore.”
Traci’s husband Kevin added that Traci was his “dreamgirl.” He wrote, “I’m lost without you, what am I supposed to do now? May God give me the strength. Thank you for our life we had together. Until we meet again…”
Fans quickly took to social media to share their messages of shock and grief. One fan tweeted, “This is so heartbreaking! Rip Traci Braxton.” And another wrote, “May God grant the Braxton family with peace in this troubling time.”
But one tweet that stood out from many others was one from Twitter user Jermaine Watkins. The short clip shows Traci complimenting each of her sisters and explaining how she strives to be like each of them in some way.
Our prayers and condolences are with the entire Braxton family during this hard time.
