As the Paris 2024 Olympics unfold, Black women’s mental health is taking center stage. Simone Biles’ victory in the gymnastics individual all-around finals not only shows her physical prowess but also underscored the importance of mental health. Biles’ dedication to her well-being, including meditating before performances, captivated audiences worldwide. Her decision to prioritize mental health over competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, despite facing criticism, has since proven wise.
This year, Biles celebrated her triumphs with a symbolic goat necklace, a nod to her status as the Greatest Of All Time. Her journey reflects the broader movement among Black women athletes to emphasize mental health. Tia Mowry, who is a mental health advocate herself, has closely observed these inspiring moments.
“It’s all about us right now,” she remarked, expressing admiration for the Black girl magic at the Olympics.
Mowry praised Simone Biles and her team for their empowerment, teamwork, and community spirit.
“What I really love is this amazing push towards mental health,” Mowry noted. She highlighted how seeing athletes meditate and focus on mental health during such a competitive event is “beautiful to watch.”
Tia Mowry: A Family Girls’ Girl
The Summer Games have been even more of an event in Mowry’s household due to her latest partnership with Meta AI. The actress believes that the collaboration aligns with her Olympic enthusiasm.
“I’m so excited to be partnering up with them,” she shared.
Meta AI’s new initiative, Super Fan, allows sports fans to keep up with their favorites during the summer games. Mowry enjoys using Meta AI to stay updated with the women’s gymnastics team, emphasizing how it empowers her to connect with her family during these events.
“Meta AI really acts as this accessible assistant,” she said. It helped her plan a fun cook-off with her son, featuring recipes from Japan and Spain inspired by the games.
Beyond the Olympics, Mowry is excited about her upcoming reality show which she believes will be able to help other women feel seen.
“I want to be an example for women that have gone through transitions in life,” she explained.
Her show will feature tears, laughter, and personal growth, aiming to inspire viewers navigating changes like motherhood or career shifts.
“If I could give some sort of support or advice on how we all can move through that, then I feel like I’m doing what I’ve been called to do,” she expalined.
Mowry’s busy schedule also includes a new movie for Lifetime and a holiday film later this year. Her commitment to mental health, community, and personal growth shines through in all her endeavors. Whether through her partnership with Meta AI or her reality show, Mowry continues to be a voice for women, championing the importance of mental health and resilience.
