Tiffany Haddish has never been one to shy away from her life stories. Now, in an interview with PEOPLE, promoting “The Afterparty” season 2, she is sharing the similarities between her life and the show.
Tiffany Haddish Crashing Weddings
After her hit breakout role in the 2017 film, “Girl’s Trip,” Haddish has continuously been booked and busy. She has had several roles in films and shows, including the latest “The Afterparty.” The second season of the show focuses on the death of a groom after his wedding. Haddish reprises her role as ex-detective Danner who is investigating the case.
“I’ve crashed weddings before, given a speech and didn’t know anybody there,” Haddish explained to the outlet. “That’s when I was homeless and hungry.”
Haddish has previously opened up about her struggles while she was trying to make it to the top. She says she can recall when she was homeless and living in her car. The weddings she crashed were an opportunity for her to get food without causing too much of a ruckus.
“I would have two or three drinks, and then I would grab the microphone and be like, ‘I just want to say that you are the most beautiful couple,’” she recalled. “Everybody would be looking at me like, ‘Who is this Black girl at our wedding?’”
The actress also talked to PEOPLE about staying grounded. Her career has been consistently elevating and she says it can be easy to let yourself get wrapped up in fame. Haddish says she often takes a step back in those cases.
“I try my best not to hold onto to too many emotions because I feel like when you hold onto all those emotions, they make you crazy and then you get delusional,” she explained. “Sleep is the key. And don’t be afraid to go out in nature. Take your shoes off and walk in some grass.”
The second season of “The Afterparty” is out now on Apple TV+.
