The annual Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly (ESPY) awards took place Wednesday at The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The event, as always, was a celebration of athletic excellence as well as the biggest moments in the past year. Some of the awards categories include best team, best female athlete, best male athlete, best championship performance and others. Angel Reese of LSU went home with the Best Breakthrough Athlete award while A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces won the Best WNBA Player award. Away from the awards stage, however, a number of Black women showed out on the red carpet. Below are some of the best looks from the event.
Angel Reese
Rising star Angel Reese wore a shimmering gold gown with a high slit on her big night. Reese finished her look off with a long ponytail and minimal accessories.
Tiffany Haddish
Actor-comedian Tiffany Haddish looked stunning in a short, form-fitting black gown with a cascading skirt. Haddish finished off her look with black stilettos and her signature blonde finger waves.
H.E.R
Singer and performer of the night, H.E.R, arrived wearing a sleeveless, short leather gown. She wore her long, curly hair away from her face and opted for almost no accessories.
Coco Jones
Singer and recent BET Awards winner, Coco Jones, was a vision in blue. Jones chose a teal gown, completely bejewelled with silver crystals for her red carpet look. Jones finished off her ensemble with simple metallic heels and minimal jewelry.
Bianca Belair
WWE champion Bianca Belair looked opted for a feathery black gown for the red carpet. Belair finished her look with a curly updo and black leather pumps.
Monica McNutt
Renowned ESPN sports analyst Monica McNutt looked stunning in a shimmering, backless water-fall-esque white gown. McNutt completed her look with a gold clutch purse and silver earrings.
Ego Nwodim
Actress and SNL cast member Ego Nwodim arrived on the red carpet in a long black gown that reserved all its drama for its bodice. The bodice of Nwodim’s dress featured a large, heart-shaped gold design.
Claressa Shields
Pro boxer and mixed martial artist Clarissa Shields wore a champagne pink halter neck dress. She finished her look off with a bog and bang that swept across her face.
Flau’jae Johnson
Another LSU athlete Flau’jae Johnson made a statement with her purple two-piece set, made up of a bra top, long skirt and a scarf. Johnson finished off her look with silver pumps and an envelope purse.
