It’s officially sniffle season. So, your nose is about to become best friends with a tissue. That said, you don’t have to worry about your winter glam getting lost in a tissue every time you blow your nose. With a transfer-resistant makeup look, your nose contour will stay in place as you alleviate your sinuses from the congestion that comes with the cold weather season.

While there is a step-by-step process to achieving a transfer-resistant makeup look, there’s a word of advice you should follow from 20-year professional entertainment and editorial makeup artist, Tamara Delbridge. The makeup artist – whose work has been featured on BET and MTV – told 21Ninety to “apply makeup on the nose sparingly when you have a runny nose.”

How To Do a Transfer-Resistant Makeup Look

With that advice in mind it’s time for step one. The first step, after you’ve done your pre-makeup skin care, is to prime your face. “The primer prepares the skin for a smooth makeup application,” Delbridge explained. The longtime makeup artist added that a primer also helps to “control excessive sebum production so that there is less of a chance for makeup to break down during the day.”

Then, apply your cream-based products. “After applying my nose contour, I then bake my nose with a loose setting powder using a powder puff to gently create two vertical lines on either side of my nose,” professional makeup artist & co-founder of CTZN Cosmetics, Naseeha Khan, told 21Ninety. The brand founder then lets her powder sit for a few minutes before brushing it off with a blending brush.

Lastly, apply your setting spray. “Look for products that indicate they are transfer-free,” Delbridge stated. Once your setting spray has dried down, you’re ready to face the winter chill and, more importantly, blow your nose without the fear of frequent touch ups.

Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Hydrating Makeup Primer

“For transfer proof makeup I first apply a hydrating and gripping primer like Milk Makeup’s Hydro Grip Hydrating Makeup Primer,” Khan said. The expert’s pick is a base layer that helps makeup stay put for up to 12 hours. It has a silicone-free formula that dries down to a transfer-resistant dewy finish.

HUDA BEAUTY Easy Bake Loose Baking & Setting Powder

To bake your nose makeup, give HUDA BEAUTY’s Easy Bake Loose Baking & Setting Powder a try. It’s a vegan loose powder that sets to a matte finish. While the finish is matte, know that your skin will be comfortable all day with the inclusion of vitamin E in the formula. And, the non-comedogenic powder won’t promote any unwanted breakouts.

Plus, this powder is flashback-free. So, if you decide to take a selfie, you won’t notice where the powder is on your face in the photo. There are nine shades available in the full-size version of this product. Depending on which shade you grab, you can also get a medium coverage finish.

To set your powder in place, reach for the E.l.f. Halo Glow Powder Puff. This puff is shaped like a triangle so that you’re able to use it all over your face. The whole surface can pat powder over your foundation.

But, when it comes to your nose, you’ll want to lean into the smaller tip at the top. That way, you’ll be able to precisely contour and set your nose to perfection. Plus, it has an attached strap for your fingers so your nails don’t accidentally ruin all the work you put into creating your nose glam.

Urban Decay All Nighter Waterproof Makeup Setting Spray

Urban Decay’s All Nighter Waterproof Makeup Setting Spray is one of Delbridge’s recommendations. “It’s transfer-resistant, waterproof, and smudge-proof,” the professional makeup artist noted.

This vegan setting spray locks in makeup with a natural finish for up to 16 hours. That way, you’ll have a transfer-resistant makeup look that lets you blow your nose without worrying about your whole nose makeup staying in the tissue.
