Vanessa Simmons has grown up in front of the public eye and has done it with grace and class. Although from the outside looking in, it may seem as though it has been an easy process, she says that there were times when she wished for more privacy.
“We all have challenges that we go through, but definitely adds pressure on knowing that there are so many eyes on everything you do,” she explained. “So it’s been a long journey of me being in, in the public eye and just having to be ok with my mistakes being seen sometimes by people and you don’t really necessarily want that out. You want your highlight reel out, you want, you know, all the good things to be highlighted, but sometimes life happens and you know, things don’t always go according to plan.”
21Ninety’s Zayna Allen had a chance to sit down with the entrepreneur. She opened up about being a mompreneur, putting herself first, and her new partnership with Buttah Skin.
Vanessa Simmons Growing Her Bag And Putting Herself First
Simmons is not one to play when it comes to her doing what she loves. She has always wanted to act and has consistently made strides to do that. Her latest project, “DEADLY ENTANGLEMENT” is currently streaming on BET+. She says that her goals have evolved as she has gotten older in order for her to get to where she is now.
“I’ve always wanted to pursue being a professional actress and I knew that it wouldn’t be easy to pursue and it was gonna take a lot of work and a lot of vision,” she said. “And, you know, the dream has evolved for me over the years, I’m almost 40 I’m only 40 in a month. And so it’s been a long journey. So I’ve always wanted to do the things that I’m doing and I feel extremely blessed to still have the opportunity in entertainment that I have.”
Not only does she work hard at achieving her goals, but she is also a mother. When asked about balancing it all, she says there’s no one right way to go about it.
“You know, I don’t know if we ever really find the perfect balance, she explained. “There’s no such thing as perfection is what I’ve learned, but just to give yourself to it every single day and do the best that you can I’m definitely all about or I think it’s, it’s, it’s all in your organization is how you can best do it and taking time for yourself to love on yourself and, and self-care is definitely a huge part of it as well.”
