They Were Friends Before Their Relationship Began in 2020
According to People, Towns and Woods officially began dating in May 2020, but didn’t make their relationship public until September of that year. Mutual friends introduced them earlier on, but there was “never a kiss or anything” before their mutual feelings were realized. “I think it’s kind of cool dating your best friend,” Woods reflected a year into their romance.
“We know each other. We know each other’s hearts. We know each other on good days and bad days and we’ve been through a lot of bad days together.” Around that same time, Towns explained how the COVID-19 pandemic played a role in them coming together. “It just so happened, the COVID came and kind of brought its challenges and it kind of forced us to either pick where our relationship was going to go as friends or something more. And we chose the latter,” he said.
Painful Losses Have Allowed Woods and Towns to Bond
Jordyn Woods’ father, John, died of cancer in 2017. Her partner lost his mom, Jacqueline Towns, in April 2020 after a battle with COVID. “I leaned on her because she’s one of those only people who actually knew how I was feeling and what I was going through,” the NBA player said in a 2021 interview. “A woman that meant so much to me in my life left my life to be replaced by another woman who took that spot. I feel, in a way, when my mom passed, she’s like, ‘I’m not going to leave you alone. I’m going to make sure you know who you are supposed to be with.'”
Athlete Knows His Girl Is ‘The Baddest’
Besides being grateful for her light in his life, KAT is also thankful for Woods’ beauty. In 2021, he wasn’t afraid to remind social media of this as alleged screenshots of him messaging another woman surfaced online. “So crazy how someone can make fake screenshots and send it to blogs and y’all believe it,” the designer wrote at the time. “My relationship is more than solid and I put that on everything.”
For his part, Towns chimed in, “So I got the baddest girl in the game and you think I’m gonna waste my energy with anyone else? Gtfoh! Same haters we got now are gonna be the same ones we have when I put that ring on her finger.” Interestingly, the proposal he alluded to at the time hasn’t happened yet, but as of October 2024, Towns and Jordyn Woods are still going strong.
