After 16 years on ABC the hit television series, “Dancing With The Stars” is moving to Disney+.

“DWTS” has received a two-year pickup for Seasons 31 and 32 and will debut exclusively on Disney+ this fall in the U.S. and Canada. This will make it the first live series to debut on the service and it is also believed to be the first live streaming reality show in the U.S.

ABC announced that NFL football is part of the plan to secure the spot for the Monday 8-10 PM slot on the fall schedule. That spot has been occupied by “DWTS” for the past 15 years.

After over 30 seasons of the program on ABC, including two spin-offs, Dancing with the Stars will move off of ABC this fall in order for the Network to showcase several Monday Night Football games as well as develop and invest in new and future programming.

Will Tyra Return?

As for Tyra Banks returning as the host, that question is still up in the air. Professional dancer on the show, Artem Chigvintsev, addressed speculation of Tyra departing ways with the show. He admitted that the dancers are just as in the dark as fans are.

As far as the show goes, the only information we received of it is we are going to be on a different platform, but as far as like, who’s going to be part of it and even ourselves as dancers, I’m not sure.

– Chigvintsev

He noted that all decisions being made about the show should become public by August.

I feel like there’s a lot of time ahead of us right now. So, we haven’t got any information on that, he added. We’re definitely not the first people to find out what’s going on.

The streamer service has yet to confirm who will be hosting season 31 of “DWTS.” The supermodel previously joined the show as host in 2020 after the departure of former host Tom Bergeron and cohost, Erin Andrews. The two were let go for unknown reasons. Bergeron was the host for 28 long seasons. Andrews took up the hosting gig in 2014 after competing as a contestant on the show.

If you can remember, Banks was trending in the news earlier this month when former “DWTS” host, Brooke Burke, told “Behind the Velvet Rope” podcast that Banks was a “diva” behind the scenes.

There’s nothing wrong with that, and I’m not saying anything bad about her. Be a diva, it’s just not the place to be a diva. not the place to be a diva. Your pros are the divas, your winners, your perfect 10 score dancer who’s never done it — that defines diva in the ballroom.

– Brooke Burke, Behind the Velvet Rope podcast

While “DWTS” hasn’t been a moneymaker for years, its departure will have an impact on ABC and its affiliates.
