One 13-year-old girl in Kentucky is gaining attention on a national level for her yodeling skills. Meet Phoebe White, the yodeling cowgirl.
Phoebe White, The Yodeling Cowgirl
White has been performing and bringing joy to her community in Kentucky for almost half of her life. She taught herself how to yodel at the age of eight and has not turned back since.
The song, “Blue” by LeAnn Rimes inspired White to learn how to yodel. She heard it on the way home from vacation and was impressed by how unique the sound was. She had to give it a try. Years later, she released her first 10-track album, “UnXpected” which hit #7 on the Western Music Chart.
In an interview with WEKU, the young performer discussed her love for what she does.
“I just love yodeling. I love making the audience smile cause it’s something different. And when I see people smile, or just see them happy, it just makes me so happy,” she gushed.
Since she began performing, she has won 24 talent competitions. It is partly due to her talents outside of yodeling.
“I play piano, I play 12-string guitar, I play guitar, I play banjo, ukelele, and mandolin and I’m learning fiddle right now,” White explained to the outlet. She revealed that she is able to sing many genres as well, but prefers Western Music the most.
Phoebe White’s momager, Tina White, says that she was shocked by her daughter’s decision to release an album and its success so far.
“I was stunned because she just released the album. And, I was flipping through the magazine. I didn’t know that she would be on the charts at all much less number seven. So that was, exciting, very exciting,” she explained.
White is already planning her next album now that she has successfully released her first. Until then you can catch her performing at different venues all throughout Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio.
