Who says that Halloween is just for kids? If you need an excuse to embrace your imagination, look no further than Halloween. There are so many opportunities to just let your hair down, laugh, play, dress up, and to simply have fun. If you need a sign, here’s your green light to take full advantage of the candy-filled holiday and embrace your inner child who you might have let go dormant.

Here are five Halloween activities that will speak to your inner child:

Explore the Festivities

If you live on the east coast or in the Midwest, then there is no shortage of pumpkin patches or apple orchards. (Don’t worry Southerners and West Coasters, there are still options for you too.) This activity oozes “all things fall.” Typically, there will be activities such as hayrides, petting farms, apple picking, or face painting, as well as small shops to purchase fall and Halloween-themed gifts and food.

Have a Costume-Themed Party

Bring the party to your house this Halloween and invite your friends. Everyone can dress up in their favorite costumes, and you can create Halloween-themed menu items and games to get the party going. If you really want to embrace your inner child, then make it a sleepover and stay up late watching horror movies. Bonus points if you give your Halloween party a theme and have your friends dress up as characters from a film or television show. The sky is the limit for costume ideas. Think big franchises like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel Movies or you can opt for costumes from classic Black television shows like Fresh Prince, Living Single, and Different World.

Carve a Pumpkin

While it may get a little messy, there’s no shortage of fun with pumpkin carving. You can carve the classic jack-o-lantern, or you might get creative and opt for loftier designs like a haunted house, bats, or a unicorn. You can even carve out messages like “Trick or treat,” or “Boo!” You can find pumpkins at your local grocery store, and there are even pumpkin carving kits to give you ideas on how and what to carve. Take pictures of you and your friends’ final pumpkin creations and vote on whose is best!

Grab Halloween-Themed Sweets

Who does not love a warm cup of apple cider during this season? Apple cider is to Halloween, what eggnog is to Christmas. Bonus points if it’s spiked! If you’d prefer to save money, you can make your own sweet treats. There’s a number of Halloween-inspired desserts you can make at home, too. Try dirt pudding, caramel apples, or pumpkin cookies.

Visit a Haunted House

For the adventure seekers, there is no shortage of haunted houses available during Halloween. For a good scare and a possible pee-your-pants moment, you might even check out one of your favorite theme parks, which often offer a haunted attraction. Beware of the goblins, ghosts, witches, and gremlins on the loose! Haunted houses are a full-on, immersive experience that is sure to fill your thrill-seeking cup.
