Every time you open your IG or TikTok app, there seems to be a new nail trend making waves all over social media. In recent years you’ve heard of aquarium nails and even duck nails. The newest trend? Rollercoaster curve nails.

The rollercoaster curve nail originates from 90’s urban nail designs. Back then, many Black women would often get their nails done with extensions that were inches long. The style accentuated to finger, making them look like long claws. It became a staple of the time’s aesthetic. These nails would be seen at large events like Freaknik and different hang-out spots like skating rinks, cookouts and more.

The new trend, however, takes a very peculiar approach to the style. While the length of the 90’s nail is still there, the natural curve is not. Instead, the nails are slightly bent to take on the shape of a rollercoaster drop. The style was recently seen on rapper, Saweetie, which has caused a lot of discussions online.

Saweetie Brings Attention to The Trend

Recently, Saweetie stepped out to attend a San Francisco 49ers game rocking an all-red fit with lengthy red claws to match. Although the set was not curved exactly like the rollercoaster nail design, her look definitely sparked interest in nail techs all over the internet. This was the call to bring back extra extra long nails … with a little pizzazz.

The Birth of the Rollercoaster Nail

The new nail trend started to pop up all over TikTok. The app has hundreds of videos of women getting the uniquely curved design. Bay-Area nail tech, @SlayedByErica, is the original creator of the design. She has posted several videos of her unique styles and even blogged a day in the life of having nails that length. The original video of her creating the shape of the nail has racked up 2.1 million views.

Whether you like it short or dramatically long, nail designs are ever-evolving. The rollercoaster nail is the next design that may take over the cosmetic space. Make sure to keep an eye out to spot the first set of rollercoaster nails in your area!
