It felt meant to be. At the onset of my postpartum hair loss, Beyoncé announced the release date of her new haircare line, Cécred. Beyoncé’s Cécred haircare promises to deliver products that are based in science and help support hair from the inside out. It sounded like the exact fix that my hair needed.
I logged online at 5:00 a.m. on the day the products were released and filled my cart with a $200 Cécred haul. Once my order was complete, I was the proud new owner of the Hydrating Shampoo ($30), Moisturizing Deep Conditioner ($38), Fermented Rice and Rose Protein Ritual ($52 ), Moisture Sealing Lotion ($38) and Nourishing Hair Oil ($44).
Immediate Takeaways
Overall, here are my immediate takeaways from using the Beyoncé’s Cécred haircare products:
- The scent is fantastic
- The products are moisturizing and make detangling easy
- It’s difficult to get the product out of the shampoo bottle
- The rice water rinse left a grainy residue in my hair
- The process is very time consuming
- The price point felt fair for the products delivered
First Impressions
Beyoncé’s Cécred haircare products arrived on my doorstep sealed with the tape of the brand’s logo. Upon opening the box, the items I purchased were nestled neatly into brown packing paper. The packaging of each item felt thought out and high end.
Shampoo and Conditioner
I opted for the Hydrating Shampoo because my hair tends to be dry. The Hydrating Shampoo provided a phenomenal lather without leaving my hair feeling stripped.
One of the biggest downfalls of the shampoo was the bottle. The rigid nature of the plastic made it nearly impossible to squeeze out the product through the cap. I ended up removing the cap entirely and carefully pouring the shampoo into my hand.
The line currently doesn’t offer a “regular” conditioner. You can either purchase the deep conditioner or the Reconstructing Treatment Mask. However, on the brand’s website, the conditioner companion is displayed with “coming soon” text under it.
Personally, I didn’t mind skipping straight to the deep conditioning step. In fact, it probably saved some time in what turned out to be an extremely long wash day process. The deep conditioner was thick and felt nutritive. Instructions advise adding heat for best results, which I didn’t do. I left the product on for roughly 20 minutes and believe that the results were still good. My hair was soft and manageable, when I got out of the shower.
Rice Water and Rose Protein Ritual
The ritual process is the brand’s offering that really sets Beyoncé’s Cécred haircare line apart from the rest. It feels unique and, as a consumer, it made me curious.
Although it is a standout on the product line, I probably would not include this in my regular wash days. It requires you to first “make” the rice water rinse by emptying a packet of powder into 24 ounces of warm water. Then, you pour that mixture over your hair and let it sit for 5 minutes. After rinsing you move on to step 2, which is a silk rinse. That sits in your hair for 5 minutes before rinsing. While the products seem to leave my hair soft and manageable, I believe that I would have had the same result skipping these steps altogether and only using the deep conditioner.
There is a shaker bottle that is sold to mix the rice water; however, I strongly recommend not buying it. Unless you are a devote member of the Beyhive that wants to use it as a water bottle, there is no exact purpose for it. I simply used a take out container to mix my powder and water. The substitute worked perfectly fine.
Moisture Sealing Lotion and Nourishing Hair Oil
The sealing lotion was probably my second favorite product after the deep conditioner. It really worked to add moisture back to my hair without leaving it too heavy. For this products, a little goes a long way. I may have used too much of the product during my trial run. However, even with my heavy hand, my hair didn’t feel weighed down.
The nourishing oil, while nice, didn’t excite me beyond any other oils already on the market.
Overall Pros and Cons
The smell and detangling abilities of the products really set Beyoncé’s Cécred haircare line apart from other natural haircare lines. I noticed a difference in how much hair I lost while using the haircare line. I can’t be sure if that is because my hair loss is slowing down or because the products are that good at detangling. However, I feel like it is a combination of both.
I noticed that the rice water powder left a grainy residue in my hair after rinsing it out. This could have been user error, but it is something to note. After I dried my hair, I no longer noticed the graininess. The difficulty in getting the product out of the shampoo bottle also makes the con list. However, it feels like a minor detail, since you can remove the top easily. The time required to get all the steps done was a bit overwhelming. However, as the user, you have the power to chose what products you want to employ. I felt confident that if I skipped a step, I still would have positive results.
Would I Buy Again?
While not necessarily affordable, the products in Beyoncé’s Cécred haircare line are reasonable because of the quality of the items. With each product, a little bit goes a long way. I would happily buy my favorite products again and try out some of line’s other the offerings.
