Beyoncé decided to celebrate this year’s Juneteenth by honouring Black fashion designers. For the Amsterdam stop of her widely popular Rennaisance World Tour, Queen B herself decided to wear pieces made only by Black designers.

According to British Vogue, “The Black designers she championed on stage include Feben, Maximilian Davis for Ferragamo, Olivier Rousteing for Balmain, Ibrahim Kamara for Off-White, LaQuan Smith and her own designs for Ivy Park.”

Yes, alongside all the outfits made by other Black designers, Beyoncé also wore a look from her own fashion brand Ivy Park. She shared that she designed the look, drawing inspiration from Studio 54 and Bob Mackie.

On her Instagram, the singer posted a carousel of pictures featuring the pink, halter-neck gown, complete with high double slits and matching gloves she designed for Ivy Park.

“I started designing this collection over a year ago. I was so engulfed in all things RENAISSANCE and was inspired by Studio 54, Bob Mackie and the disco era,” her caption began. “I wanted to do a modern twist using the signature IVY PARK neon and bring disco to the beach in this swim collection. I’m so happy to share this with you and even more proud to launch it for the first time on the RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR. I’m proud to be among the very talented Black designers featured in last night’s show to celebrate Juneteenth.”

Championing Black Voices

Beyoncé has always been a strong advocate and champion of and for Black designers and Black creatives in general. On her Renniassance Tour so far, she has mostly worked with Black stylists including KJ Moody, Shiona Turini, and Julia Starr-Jamois. These stylists have been behind the disco-esque outfits she has worn throughout her tour.

These looks have complimented the robotic, disco and queer ball aesthetics of her stage set-up, as well as the themes of her album, “Rennaissance.” Some of the looks she wore to celebrate Black designers included a sparkling, form-fitting red gown with a high slit from Ferragamo and a silver armour-esque bodysuit from Balmain with whom she collaborated on a 17-piece couture collection inspired by her album.

Beyoncé also wore a deconstructed red bodysuit from Off-White, a gold, red and white jumpsuit from Feben and others. Laquan Smith designed a mirrored bodysuit for the superstar which she also shared on her page. The designer commented under the post thanking Beyoncé for including him.

“You look so stunning! I’m so happy the jumpsuit came to life in the most epic way. What an honor to have you wear my design,” Smith wrote.
