Cardi B has now begun her community service. Here’s what you need to know about the “Bodak Yellow” rapper’s court-ordered restitution.

The Crime

In August 2018, Cardi B ordered an assault on two female employees at Angel’s strip club in Flushing, Queens, NY.

According to TMZ, the rapper (real name: Belcalis Almánzar) reportedly ordered the assault on the employees because she believed one of them slept with her husband, Offset. But even though the employees were injured after the attack, both declined to receive medical treatment.

Cardi initially denied even being in the strip club on the night in question. Despite her denials, however, she ultimately surrendered to the police in October 2018, according to People.

And though she was initially hit with ten different charges — including two felonies — Cardi B ultimately pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors. The rapper told People that she did so, ultimately, for the benefit of her children.

“Part of growing up and maturing is being accountable for your actions. As a mother, it’s a practice that I am trying to instill in my children, but the example starts with me. I’ve made some bad decisions in my past that I am not afraid to face and own up to,” she said to the outlet. “These moments don’t define me and they are not reflective of who I am now. I’m looking forward to moving past this situation with my family and friends and getting back to the things I love the most — the music and my fans.”

The court ordered that Cardi B complete 15 days of community service, and she had until March 1, 2023, to comply with the order.

Why Did Cardi B Ask For An Extension?

Despite her best efforts, Cardi B asked for an extension to complete her court-ordered community service.

“Personally and professionally, Cardi is dedicated to community service and charitable endeavors,” her attorney said to People in the same report. “She, therefore, appreciates the court giving her until March 1 to complete her community service commitment in Queens, New York.”

Quite the Splash

As is typical of the “Clout” rapper, Cardi B has been chronicling her community service on Twitter.

Check out some of her posts below.

According to The Daily Mail, the mom-of-two made a fashion splash during her mandated service, putting on her finest haute couture to make a statement without saying a word.

“Cardi let her silky brunette hair flow out from under an adorable pink Teddy Bear beanie and she rocked six-inch silver nails,” reported the outlet. “Cardi slipped her feet into a beige pair of her beloved Maison Margiela boots.”

So, even when she’s feeling her worst, Cardi shows us that it’s important to be at her best!

What’s Next for Cardi B?

Despite the setback, Cardi B isn’t letting her situation get the best of her. The rapper — who makes quite a pretty penny for her performances — turned up to support GloRilla at New York City’s Irving Plaza on February 22nd.

“The biggest and most epic surprise of the night, though, was when GloRilla did her hit “Tomorrow 2″ and then brought out the song’s guest: hometown hero Cardi B,” reports Brooklyn Vegan, who had a front-row seat to the surprise performance that also featured Brooklyn-based drill rapper Lola Brooke. “As soon as Cardi hit the stage, her name was lit up on the screen behind her, and GloRilla and the crowd went nuts, with everyone in the room rushing towards the stage to be as close as possible. It was a relatively rare appearance for Cardi, who hasn’t performed much lately, and also a very intimate one. She killed it, and looked genuinely excited to be there.”

But the moral of the story can best be summed up by Cardi B’s tweet: don’t commit crimes!
