During the cold winter months especially, our skin can become dry and flaky. That’s why it's essential to have an extra layer of defense against the cold, harsh weather. Instead of buying a $20 mask at the store, why not create one in the comfort of your own home? An avocado mask is a good one to try for those that suffer from rough and calloused skin.

So, what are the benefits of using avocados one might ask? Well, they include skin hydration, acne treatment, exfoliation, and the continued use of avocados on the skin can help reduce wrinkles or fine lines.

You can create this nourishing mask with just four simple ingredients in your own home. All you will need is avocado, honey, olive oil and lemon.

STEP ONE: CUT THE AVOCADO

You only need about ¼ of a ripe avocado, and then you can seal up the rest to use later. Make sure it is adequately mashed so it can mix well with the other ingredients.

STEP TWO: SLICE UP SOME LEMON

Slice lemon and squeeze one tablespoon of the juice into the avocado mixture.

STEP THREE: ADD OIL

It ’s recommended to use olive oil because it provides a lot of moisture to the face, but you can always adjust to working with what your skin needs. You can use coconut oil as an alternative as well.

STEP FOUR: ADD HONEY

Less is more with this product. Dissolve one tablespoon of raw honey into some warm water and then add that liquid into your mixture.

STEP 5: MIX INGREDIENTS TOGETHER

Mix all of the ingredients in a big mixing bowl and allow just a few seconds for the mixture to settle.

STEP 6: USE A WARM TOWEL TO OPEN UP PORES

Drench a warm cloth over your face, let it steam and open up all your pores. Don’t skip this step! The mask will work more efficiently by doing so.

STEP 7: USE FINGERS OR BRUSH TO APPLY ON SKIN

Always make sure to have clean, washed hands before applying anything to your face. You don’t want to trap any bacteria once you have opened your pores with the washcloth.

STEP 8: RELAX WITH THE MASK ON FOR ROUGHLY 10 MINUTES

Kick your feet up and relax for approximately 10-15 minutes, or until the mask dries out on your face. Rinse off, and you are done.

As always, some substitutions/replacements can be made with the ingredient list above, its all about customization to your particular skin needs and wants. Nonetheless, making your mask at home should be easy so make sure to have some fun with it!
