We all got a glimpse into Sanaa Lathan’s latest role when she took her new, freshly shaved hair to Instagram back in September of 2017. The upcoming Netflix film, Nappily Ever After, features Lathan as Violet Jones, a perfectionist whose hair is everything.

And now, after almost a year of waiting, the official trailer is here!

The trailer kicks off with Violet speaking about her hair, "Ever since I was a kid, my hair was everything," Violet says in the official trailer. "I had to be fixed. Only then was I perfect."

Violet had everything she strived for — the perfect job, the perfect man — but it all started falling apart. This didn’t stop her from continuing her hair appointments, one of which she’s told that she "can sponsor like six kids" with the amount of money she puts into her hair.

"I’ve worked so hard to be perfect, and it still wasn’t enough," states Violet in the trailer.

As Violet begins to transform and rediscover herself, we see Laathan go all the way in for her character by shaving her head on camera. As for Violet, without her hair to keep her busy, she’s forced to take a look at herself and decide her next steps.

Lathan’s commitment and dedication to this role was admirable and, since shaving her head, she hasn’t stopped shining. Then again, did she ever?
