New skincare innovations are constantly on the horizon, promising to revolutionize routines and enhance natural beauty. One such innovation making waves is SKINVIVE by JUVÉDERM. This FDA-approved injectable moisturizer isn’t like your typical cream or serum. Instead, it’s a gel implant or dermal filler designed for injection into specific areas of facial tissue.

“Skinvive is a new injectable treatment from Allergan, who are also the makers of Botox, which consists of microdroplets of hyaluronic acid that are added to the skin to add hydration and plump the skin,” said Nkem Ugonabo, a dermatologist. “The treatment is safe for all skin types. However, I think it’s important to consult with your doctor to make sure that it is the best treatment for your concerns and fits the goals you are trying to achieve.”

How SKINVIVE Works?

SKINVIVE works by replenishing moisture and adding volume to the skin. The key ingredient, hyaluronic acid, helps to hydrate and plump the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, 1,4-butanediol Diglycidyl ether cross-links the hyaluronic acid molecules, providing longer-lasting results. This combination of ingredients works synergistically to give the skin a hydrated and youthful appearance.

Ugonabo explained that SKINVIVE is different from other topical treatments because it’s an in-office appointment.

“For this treatment, we would numb the skin first with topical lidocaine before doing the injections,” she said. “Generally speaking, I see it as an adjunct to topical treatments, particularly for those who already have moisturizers in their routine but want to do something additional for extra hydration or plumping of the skin.”

The skin treatment lasts up to six months, so Ugonabo recommends treatment twice a year. Ugonabo doesn’t recommend SKINVIVE for individuals who have trypanophobia. If you are allergic to injectable hyaluronic acid fillers, she also recommends proceeding with caution.
