Doja Cat’s relationship with her fans has been bumpy in recent years. Not everyone stuck around through the Scarlet era, which saw the California native bickering with people on Twitter (when she wasn’t trolling, of course). Throughout all the tension, Doja repeatedly expressed how good it felt to be her authentic self and allow what wasn’t aligned to fade away. As a public figure who faces near-constant criticism, the Grammy Award winner keeps most of her close relationships away from the spotlight to protect them. Her last beau, J. Cyrus, certainly felt the wrath of disapproving Doja Cat fans. She previously refused to listen to haters, but now the Planet Her hitmaker has reportedly moved on with Joseph Quinn.
It’s been over two years since the 28-year-old tried to shoot her shot with the Stranger Things actor, but it seems good things come to those who wait after all! On Sunday, Aug. 18, cameras caught Quinn and Doja exploring Camden while holding hands, suggesting she and Cyrus quietly went their separate ways. The last time the “Woman” singer publicly claimed a partner was in 2019. Since then she’s been linked to a handful of other artists, but no one “real” enough for her to hard launch them; the performer once told Ebro Darden this was a requirement for her to share her relationship with the world.
Doja Cat’s Dating History
When Jawny (previously known as Johnny Utah) dropped his breakout single, “Honeypie,” in April 2019, he caught the eye of another rising star. While Doja admits she didn’t love the track, she was attracted to Jawny and felt brave enough to slide into his DMs. During their relationship, they collaborated on a song called “Anything You Want,” but amid their breakup it was cut from his For Abby LP. In February 2020, Doja Cat addressed the split, stating, “Everything is okay. We have been cool, no drama or weird s**t going on. S**t just didn’t work out.”
Since then, the internet has tried to link the fashionista to rapper French Montana on multiple occasions. Before their “Handstand” collab with Saweetie came out in 2021, social media sleuths speculated things were turning flirtatious when Doja was spotted with the “Unforgettable” artist on a yacht. “Me and French got a song coming out. F**kin relax,” she tweeted at the time. Less than two years later, a trip to the Bahamas in celebration of a friend’s birthday got people talking again. When Montana posted a photo at dinner with Doja, she commented, “Love you brother” – seemingly a reminder of their platonic bond.
Elsewhere, she’s been thirst-tweeting about Joji since at least 2015 (but denied dating rumors) and was first romantically linked to J. Cyrus in November 2022. The latter streamer was accused of abuse by multiple Twitch followers and has publicly apologized for his actions. Despite his attempt to mend fences, Doja faced endless backlash over her boyfriend’s past, leading to some of the aforementioned Scarlet rollout Twitter drama. In an August 2023 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the recording artist spoke about being deeply in love, though it’s unclear if her embattled ex is who she was talking about.
From Dysfunctional DMs to Deuxmoi Dates, Joseph Quinn and Doja Have Come a Long Way
“Right now I’m in a different place in my life, where I am very committed and very much in love in a different way than before. I think I’ve evolved. I’m learning to love myself, so the way that I love other people is very different. I don’t feel like a lost little teen. I feel like a woman who is coming into her own,” she told the outlet last summer. If she was falling harder for Cyrus in 2023, this year has obviously shaken things up in Doja Cat’s love life. These days, she’s got British actor Joseph Quinn on the brain – and not for the first time. While her first attempt to get the 30-year-old’s attention didn’t go as planned, she certainly has it now.
July 2022: Singer Shoots Her Shot With ‘Stranger Things’ Star
When season four of Stranger Things came out in 2022, Quinn and his curls became an internet heartthrob. It was his first time appearing in the hit Netflix Original, and his punk rock, Metallica-loving character was an immediate favorite. It seems even Doja had time to tune into the eerie supernatural show, and had developed a crush on Eddie Munson too. Rather than messaging him directly as she did with Jawny, the 28-year-old asked another celebrity to set her up with Quinn.
Via DM, Doja reached out to then-17-year-old Noah Schnapp, who plays Will in Stranger Things, requesting the teen’s matchmaking services. He encouraged the starlet to make a move herself before posting a screenshot on his IG Story – a movie Doja dubbed “socially unaware and whack.” While she was hurt, the creative gave Schnapp some grace while addressing the situation on TikTok Live. “Noah, I don’t know how old he is, but he’s not even like, over 21. When you’re that young, you make mistakes, you do dumb s**t. I’m trying to be super fair. You do dumb s**t, you say dumb s**t. You f**k up relationships with people, you make mistakes,” she said.
After calling the young actor’s behavior “borderline snake s**t,” Doja did her best to put the drama behind her. “I made an assumption that he was gonna be chill about it and he went and shared information that I didn’t feel comfortable with him sharing,” she declared. Later in July, Schnapp confirmed that he and the “Best Friend” rhymer made amends after he apologized for the misunderstanding.
August 2024: Rumored Couple Spotted Out in Camden
Pop culture enthusiasts were glad to see Schnapp and Doja put their issues to the side, but there’s been lingering curiosity about her and Joseph Quinn. After two years, gossip blogger Deuxmoi reported that the twosome is spending time together in London. On Aug. 18 photos of them at Dingwalls Dancehall in Camden surfaced online, along with a video of them holding hands on what we can only imagine is a date manifested long ago arriving in divine timing. Now that the world knows about their rumored romance, will Doja Cat decide it’s “real” enough to take public? We can’t wait to find out!
