Phoenix Mercury star Kahleah Copper is not only a four-time WNBA All-Star, 2021 Finals MVP, Olympic gold medalist and undeniable style icon. She’s also a fiancée!
The Philadelphia-based basketball superstar got engaged to Swedish National Team member Binta Daisy Drammeh last Thanksgiving. They serve as a beacon of Black, queer love within the sports world. They’ve deleted their Instagram engagement post since then, however. Additionally, not much has been seen of the two since, making some wonder if they’re still engaged. Here’s what we know.
Who Is Kahleah Copper?
Born August 28th, 1994 in North Philadelphia, basketball was an immediate dream for the 6’1 shooting guard. She played all through high school. Copper finished her college career with the third-most points all time in team history. Upon graduating, she joined the WNBA Washington Mystics in 2016.
Initially a bench player for three years, Copper’s exceptional skills eventually elevated her to a leading role. She serves as a starter as of 2020. In fact, Copper led the Chicago Sky to the 2021 playoffs, named WNBA Finals MVP as the team won their first title in franchise history. Her athletic journey is proof that even if they sleep on you initially, it’s always worth it to grind hard and prove your value.
Who Is Binta Drammeh?
Born on May 21st, 1992, in Skäggetorp, Sweden, Drammeh stands at 5’11 and serves as a forward for the Swedish National Team. However, she previously played for several countries across the Euroleague, including France and Spain. Both she and Copper served on the Spanish Perfumerias Avenida team in the 2021-2022 season (Copper was named MVP). That is where the two presumably met.
Are Kahleah Copper and Binta Drammeh Married?
We don’t know much for sure about their relationship status. However, the first public sighting of the couple was upon attending Candace Parker’s Ace All-Star Party in July 2022. Falling in an even deeper love behind the scenes, they announced their engagement in November of 2023 via Instagram, complete with a stunning professional photoshoot. Their respective teammates congratulated them and noted that the engagement was a long time coming, with Copper sharing that the proposal was “stressful.” Beyond that, however, there haven’t been many sightings of the couple, nor have they been very open about sharing their love story.
While they may be moving silently, as many couples in the public eye tend to do, there have been whispers of a breakup, as the two no longer follow each other on social media and removed all acknowledgements of their engagement. We hope that whether the two are secretly thriving or lovingly split, all remains amicable.
