When it comes to spicing up your makeup looks for the holiday season, one of my top tips is to add a bit of sparkle. Some may like a florid amount of shine, while others like more of an all-natural glow.

I’m more of a "refined shimmer" kind of girl myself. I love to add some sparkle to my work makeup, but not so much that it’s apparent I tacked on a bunch of highlighters. If you’re like me, you probably look for ways to add a bit of shimmer to your beauty routines without going crazy. Here are some of my favorite techniques and products that get the job done:

All about that “Base”

With face products, you always need to start with a strong base, or in this case, an intense glow. There are a couple of different ways to achieve this desired effect. To sneak in some shimmer – start with an illuminating primer or highlighting powder. Right now, I have been using the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector liquid highlighter in Opal. This is a fantastic highlighter that gives your skin more of a sheen rather than just layering on big chunks of glitter, so it’s perfect for anyone looking for a more pronounced glow.

Eyeshadows

The easiest way to add some radiance to your eyes is by using liquid shimmer shades. I’ve recently fallen in love with the Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in the colors Vivid Garnet and Kitten. These shades help brighten up the eye. I love an excellent one tone shadow to cover my whole lid. I also like to dab a bit of shimmer to the inner corners of my to intensify the eyes, as well as under the brow bone for a bit of an eyebrow lift.

Lips

If you’re feeling apprehensive about introducing shimmer to your makeup routine, I highly suggest starting with your lip products. It's an easy way to give some glow to your look without all of the glitter. Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty collection has a great range of Starlit Hyper-Glitz Lipstick in the colors Gravity and $upernova that really help your lips glisten and pop.

Nail Polishes

A pretty obvious and yet sometimes forgotten way to add some sparkle is by giving yourself a glitter manicure. I’m a huge fan of Luxeffects Nail Polish. They’re full of chunky glitters. If you’re looking for that extra shimmer for your next mani, try layering multiple glitter polishes together for some concentrated shimmer.
