While Fall doesn’t officially start until the 22nd of September, it’s nearly impossible to not start the transition as soon as Labor Day ends. We start to leave behind the beachy trends and start embracing sweaters, vampy lips and and darker hair colors. This coming season, lowlights are taking the spotlight and we are definitely here for the subtle slay.
According to Byrdie, hair experts suggest lowlights for those who are looking to add some dimension to their hair without damaging it with more traditional highlights (which usually involve bleaching).
Kadi Lee, a master colorist, shared with Byrdie that the best time for lowlights happens to be post-summer:
"The best time of year to execute lowlights is immediately post-summer, when your hair tends to be faded and naturally lighter from extended sun exposure, or you can do it in the midst of winter, when your skin gets a bit paler. The depth from adding lowlights helps to maintain a richness to the clients overall complexion."
When it comes to choosing the right color for your lowlights, colorists tend to base it off your complexion and eye color.
