Michelle Williams, former Destiny’s Child member, recently shared some intimate news with her fans via an Instagram post. The singer and mental health advocate shared with us all that she decided to follow her own advice and seek help for issues concerning her mental health. The text post said the following:

"For years I have dedicated myself to increasing awareness of mental health and empowering people to recognize when it’s time to seek help, support and guidance from those that love and care for your wellbeing."

She continued, "I recently listened to the same advice I have given to thousands around the world and sought help from a great team of healthcare professionals, today I proudly, happily and healthily stand here as someone who will continue to always lead by example as I tirelessly advocate for the betterment of those in need." She added, "If you change your mind, you can change your life."

Back in October, Michelle shared with The Talk that she had battled with depression since she was 13, but only found out what exactly she was suffering from at the age of 30. During her time with Destiny’s Child, Williams recalled having suicidal thoughts. However, when she confided in Matthew Knowles, their manager at the time, he responded insensitively:

"You all just signed a multi-million dollar deal. You’re about to go on tour. What do you have to be depressed about?"

This lead the 37-year-old singer to dismiss her symptoms and chalk it up to "being tired." However, after recently sharing her experiences, Williams has received a plethora of support from fans, peers like Tina Knowles Lawson and her fiancée, pastor Chad Johnson.

Knowles Lawson’s comment read, "Michelle My Bell, I’m soo proud of you! You have given unselfishly of your time and support to so many and I know that you will be the best example of self care which we all need."

Chad Johnson, with whom the singer has been engaged with since March of this year, wrote" "I’m so proud of your courage and commitment to this!! WE are in it together and on an AMAZING journey of watching THE master artist paint a priceless work of art!"

As she continues to work on herself, she is also preparing for her wedding. She shared with People that she already has a dress and wants to be married now, but Johnson would like a wedding. We can’t wait to see Michelle glowing down the isle!

As for her mental health, it's great to see her continuing to be a role model. Thank you, Michelle, for keeping it real and opening up about your struggles — and successes.
