Missy Elliott took to her Twitter page to give her good friend and fellow musician Tweet some serious praise.
The rapper-singer — who recently headlined the Essence Music Festival of Culture — shared the loving post on July 13.
“We do not talk about Tweet HARMONIES enough! She birthed a vocal sound that should NOT go unnoticed she come from a family of gospel quartet singers that’s why her vocals in the R&B world vibe felt DIFFERENT it was a gospel raw yet sultry feel! And her PEN GAME,” Missy Elliott captioned the post.
Her sweet comments included a video of Tweet performing her beloved track “Smoking Cigarettes.”
Despite the singer not always receiving the credit she is due as an artist, Tweet is regularly heralded among music lovers as being one music’s most talented singer-songwriters.
So it was no surprise fans of the singer immediately took to the comments of the post to share their own love for Tweet.
Elliott retweeted several of the messages commenting on the post. This included one that tagged Netflix, requesting that they “commission a Missy Elliott docuseries where she talks to some of the artists she’s collaborated with because she’s always dropping gems on Twitter for free.”
Tweet has kept a fairly low profile over the past several years. But she does regularly take to her Instagram page to share updates on her life and footage from her most recent live shows.
Elliott is known for using her reach on Twitter to hype up her fellow creatives — especially Black women artists.
Days before her Tweet post, Elliott showed love to the viral rap duo Flyana Boss.
Inspired by their well-known videos promoting their track “You Wish,” Elliott shared a clip of herself running to the catchy tune.
Elliott also defended the girl group over questions they’ve faced about their repetitive promotion strategy for the song.
