Night of the Living Dead (1968)

If you are trying to go back in film history for a Halloween classic, look no further than Night of the Living Dead. It stars boundary-breaking actor, Duane Jones, who gallantly takes the lead amongst a group of friends who are trapped in a remote farmhouse that’s under the attack of corpses that have come alive. Jones’ character is the grounded, level-headed leader who is the only character to come up with a feasible plan for staying alive. 

Tales from the Hood (1995)

This horror film tells the tale of a creepy funeral director, Mr. Simms as he attempts to scare teenage drug dealer Stack and his friends straight by telling them four horrifying stories, each drawing on themes from the Black experience in America. 

Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight (1995)

After 90 years on the run, the guardian of an ancient key that can unlock tremendous evil confronts a demon who wants the key so he can unleash the apocalypse. Demon-slayer, Jada Pinkett-Smith, to the rescue! This movie packs some serious girl empowerment with a dark and mysterious ambience.

Bones (2001)

Snoop Dog shines as community leader, Jimmy Bones, in this early 2000s horror film. After Bones is murdered by a crooked cop, decades later, his spirit is awakened by pesky neighborhood kids who start a dance club in his old home. His community now ravaged by drugs, Bones sets out on a path of revenge.

Twitches (2005)

If you are looking for something a little lighter that the entire family can watch, tune into the Disney Original movie, Twitches. Starring twin sisters Tia and Tamera Mowry, the film tells the story of two teen witches who were separated at birth and who meet on their 21st birthday. They must now use their powers to save their kingdom where their birth mother lives from the forces of darkness.
