Expanding her eclectic and genre-defying catalog, Grammy-winning Solange Knowles brought Eldorado Ballroom to Los Angeles’ Disney Hall. A program created and curated by Solange Knowles for Saint Heron, the three-night series was centered on themes of identity and belonging, naming the show after a historic Black music hall in Knowles’ native Houston.
Amongst the many celebrities that showed up in support, big sister Beyoncé was there for all three nights. Proving sisters stick together and support each other through the highs and lows, here are five different times Solange and Beyoncé were sister goals.
Coachella Performance
During Beyoncé’s historical Coachella performance, dubbed “Beychella,” guests like Jay-Z, Destiny’s Child and J Balvin joined her on stage. However, it was when Solange ran on to perform “Get Me Bodied” with her sister that really set the crowd alive. It only made sense, being that Solange also featured in the original music video, though seeing them dance together in silly, uninhibited Black girl joy was another level.
The Elevator Incident
Sometimes you fight with them, and sometimes they fight for you. When your relationship with your sister is healthy, there’s going to somehow be some tussle. When footage leaked of Solange physically reprimanding Jay-Z while Beyoncé watched without interference, the world knew Solange was in protective bear mode. Defending her sister at all costs, she was willing to go the entire mile for her family.
Public Praise
If either sister is talking about the other, it’s always in high praise. In her single “***Flawless,” Beyoncé references Solange by noting “My sister told me I should speak my mind,” referencing Solange’s valiant spirit. In a 2016 interview with The Fader, Solange spoke about how proud she was of her sister and how her album “Lemonade” was “empowering for Black women.” Calling Solange’s “A Seat At The Table” a “beautiful work of art,” Beyoncé also shared she knew her little sister would be something special because she “always seemed to know what she wanted.”
Music Video Cameos
Beyoncé’s videos are always incredible, and she’s never shy about featuring people who she loves. Solange has been in several of Beyonce’s music videos, including “Get Me Bodied,” “Party,” and “Blow.” However, the most iconic of them all is most certainly “Soldier,” where Solange showed off her pregnant belly before becoming a mother for the first time. She was carrying Jules J Smith, who has now gone on to pursue a career in modeling.
“The Proud Family” Theme Song
While the world can’t help but beg for a Beyoncé and Solange collab, many forget that there’s already an incredibly iconic one. Destiny’s Child provided background vocals for Solange for Disney’s “The Proud Family.” It was a big moment for young Solange, and she had her older sister right by her side to cheer her on.
