Celebrity diets have always been in the news. But thanks to model and social media influencer Lori Harvey, they took on a whole new life.

Harvey is known for her curvy, hourglass shape. But when she recently debuted a much leaner, toned figure, fans questioned how she did it so fast. Harvey explained her weight loss regimen in a TikTok post that left some fans more concerned than inspired.

Lori Harvey’s Weight Loss Plan

Harvey explains that she decided to tone up after gaining 15 pounds during her relationship with Michael B. Jordan.

“I’ve been consistently doing Pilates for like the last year. I’ve done it for a few years, but I’ve been really consistent the last year.” She says, “And when I was trying to drop weight, I was working out like five, six times a week, and I would even do, for the first month and a half, I would even do two-a-days.”

And as far as her diet is concerned, “I was in a calorie deficit.” She admits, “I think I maybe was consuming 1,200 calories in a day, max. And I wasn’t on a specific eating regimen.”

After hearing about her restrictive weight loss regimen, social media erupted with opinions.

Crazy Celebrity Diets

Lori Harvey isn’t the first celebrity who turned to restrictive dieting as a way to lose weight fast. Many Hollywood stars put themselves on extreme diet plans to lose weight for acting roles, music performances, or due to impossible beauty standards. But many of these diets are not healthy, and shouldn’t be imitated. Here are five of the craziest celebrity diets from some of your favorite Hollywood stars:

Beyoncé

To prepare for her upcoming role in the 2006 movie “Dreamgirls,” multi-talented artist Beyonce turned to the Master Cleanse to shed some weight. The Master Cleanse, also called “the lemonade diet,” is an extremely restricted diet consisting only of water mixed with lemon juice, maple syrup, and a dash of cayenne pepper.

Juice cleanses are a popular diet trend for many women. But although they can add vital nutrients to your body, they can also take some away. Our bodies need a certain level of daily vitamins and minerals, but when we’re not getting enough, it can cause nutritional deficiencies.

Even though Beyonce lost a whopping 20 pounds in two weeks, she admits her extreme dieting isn’t ideal. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she says, “In the past, I spent too much time on diets, with the misconception that self-care meant exercising and being overly conscious of my body.”

She continues, “My health, the way I feel when I wake up in the morning, my peace of mind, the number of times I smile, what I’m feeding my mind and my body—those are the things that I’ve been focusing on.”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a lean, mean bodybuilding machine. As a former WWE wrestler, he’s used to managing a rigid health and fitness regimen. But when the muscle man revealed just how strict his routine was, fans were left completely shocked.

To maintain his massive frame, he admitted to eating several pounds of food, up to 8,000 calories per day! He tells interviewers at Delish, “I can confirm it to a certain degree that I was eating many pounds of food per day, including a lot of cod,” he continues. “And as a matter of fact, I just recently transitioned my cod meals of the day to salmon.”

In addition to his extensive workout routine, he confesses to having nearly seven meals each day. But he gives himself some leeway with weekly cheat meals ranging from bacon cheeseburgers to pancakes.

Instead of losing weight, Will Smith wanted to bulk up for his role in the 2016 movie “Suicide Squad.” So he asked celebrity personal trainer Aaron Ferguson to help him gear up for the part in just five days.

Ferguson created an intense workout plan for Smith. So intense that he tore a leg muscle during a sparring session with a cast member. In an interview with Men’s Journal, he says of the incident, “It was really scary to be in that position. When you’re 47 years old, no injury is a mild injury anymore.” He explains, “I was stepping back to throw a blow, and my calf popped. Everyone heard it. The doctor there told me that I was going to be down for six weeks, but I couldn’t allow that.”

Instead, Smith continued pushing through a series of strenuous exercises, including multiple sets of push-ups, bench presses, arm curls, and much, much more.

And because he needed to gain muscle, Ferguson instructed him to eat a strict low-carb diet of grilled chicken breast, sweet potatoes, and broccoli. “It was terrible,” Smith recalls.

50 Cent

The 2011 film “All Things Fall Apart” follows the story of a promising young football player as he navigates life after a cancer diagnosis. In preparation for this starring role in the film, rapper 50 Cent went to extreme lengths to lose weight.

To shed the pounds, he followed a strict all-liquid diet for nine weeks! In addition, he worked out on the treadmill for three hours every day.
His diet was a success, with him losing over 50 pounds in the short time. Looking back, however, he admits that the journey was challenging.

In an interview with the Associated Press, he remarks, “This time it was a lot tougher for me,” he says, referring to an earlier time when he was shot in the jaw and required a liquid diet as part of the recovery process. “I had to discipline myself not … to actually have myself be in the physical state to convey the energy I felt. It’s a passion project for me.”
